This is the second time we are seeing Wagner's Ring Cycle in Paris. The production is absolutely fantastic, with superbly imagined and created visual effects. Those who have put this theatrical experience together deserve high praise: Günter Krämer, Jürgen Bäckmann, Falk Bauer, Diego Leetz and Otto Pichler.
Above all, however, is the splendid musical direction and the excellent orchestra. Philippe Jordan's conducting and musical interpretation are outstanding: we were newcomers to Wagner the first time we saw this production. We are back again, for all four operas in the Cycle. It is an unforgettable experience. Go if you can!
We can hardly wait for the Valkyrie in February.

Went to see Carmen with my family. Had our hotel concierge to make the reservations and the seats we had were excellent. Overall the place is very modern with perfect acoustics. The staff is very helpful and they all spoke english very well. The bar ACOTE is a nice place to have a drink and some snack before or in the intermission of the opera.
We took a taxi from our hotel since we had little time to waste.

Opera National de Paris has two opera houses:the 19th century Palais Garnier and the 20th century Opera Bastille. Opéra Bastille, the new opera house of Paris, was inaugurated in 1989 as part of the bicentenary celebrations of the French Revolution. It is a modern building with 2700 seats, an orchestra pit which houses 130 musicians and a huge stage with 9 elevators. It is possible to visit the backstages with a guided tour. The performance of Rudolf Nureyev's Don Quichotte was fascinating, the dancers, the orchestra and the costumes were outstanding. Anyone who dream of old opera houses should attend a performence or at least a guided tour at the Palais Garnier.

The Paris Opera is one of the world's great opera & ballet companies. The building has fantastic site line, but in general it is nothing more than a mirrored monstrosity next to the spot where the guillotine was located during the French Revolution.

My daughter and I saw Don Quichotte here in December and were happy to be able to travel from one end of Paris right to the entrance of The Opera Bastille, by busy Metro. The staff were great on the night and able to direct us where we needed to go in well spoken English. It was very warm inside (a little too warm), but our coats were taken care of (along with our scarves and umbrellas). We enjoyed our evening. The only thing I will say as that I expected an historic building and not so much a modern one. The performance by dancers was nice, but I have seen better. The orchestra was great. Overall, it was a pleasant experience - not outstanding.
