We have been to Sainte-Chapelle on two other occasions and it unfortunately was not sunny both times, which makes a beautiful sight of the stain glass windows into a spectacular sight of the stain glass windows. We just went again on our most recent trip and it was sunny! I am so glad we went, since it was like seeing it for the first time.

A must see in Paris. It is breathtaking to see a church that is completely covered in stain glass windows on three sides.

The upper chapel is reached by climbing a small dark spiral staircase. When you arrive at the top and see the windows, it seems as if the stone structure has melted away leaving only the gorgeous stained glass windows. We arrived in the upper chapel just as the sun appeared and the light shining through the stained glass was literally heavenly. Definitely worth the wait to get through the security lineup.

We queued up probably half and hour before opening and were 13th and 14th in line. Fascinating to watch people in front come out the police security check and the look on their faces is sometimes "Huh? I'm in the middle of a courtyard, where is the chapel???". There was soon I guess a couple of hundred people in there, but plenty of room for all.

The ground level where the staff went to church is quite elegant in its own right, but the reason you re there is to climb the narrow winding staircase - me with my walking stick - to what I once saw described as "like being inside a jewel". I think thats going a bit far, but it certainly is spectacular. Some of the panes are a bit dark where the sun doesn't reach, and naturally some panes were screened off for cleaning. The bench seating along one side is a good idea, allowing you to rest your neck for a while looking up at the same time. All but the lowest are too high to actually see the story they tell.

Don't miss the outside balcony - some really interesting statuary at eye level.

Good value on the Museum pass, so much else to see within 100m (Conciergie next door, flower market around the corner, Notre Dame and Crypt just down the road, several nice picnic spos on the Isle).

Even if you are not religious you are taken aback by the stained glass, the beauty of the sanctuary and the ambiance. a good camera will help you remember the exquisite environment for years to come. It is not the majestic Notre Dame but it has a special flavor of its own.
