Had dinner here on a Friday evening, a cute little place just off the Champs élysées. Prices were reasonable considering the location with a decent wine selection and a nice varied menu. Our party of three had the chateaubriand, the duck breast and the ribeye steak. All were prepared perfectly but the ribeye had a few tough sinews running through it that required removal. All very tasty dishes. The Baba Rhum dessert is not to be missed. As frequent tourists in foreign countries we periodically encounter a merchant, often a small enterprise, who advertises they accept credit cards, but mysteriously, your particular card gets rejected repeatedly. Change cards same story.
I'm not sure that's what happened here because after about the fourth card and my saying repeatedly we have no euros and my wife suggesting the owner try a different card swiper, Voila! The charge processed. So I give Chateaubriand the benefit of the doubt in this case.
But the experience served as a gentle reminder. Learn this phrase when traveling in France if this ever happens to you. Shrug your shoulders like a Frenchman and say "Tant pis. Je nais pas d'Euro." " Too bad, I have no Euros." But you do have a credit card. Make no move to solve the problem. Very often the merchant will solve it.
