This is a charming little museum just across the road from the Senate in the Luxembourg Gardens. They can have really stimulating exhibitions on so it is worth checking before you go to Paris to make sure you catch the dates. Dec 2012 they had an exhibition of the Le Havre school of Impressionist painters - the B team perhaps - but thoroughly fascinating. We didn't go for Angelina restaurant connected with the museum because we had tried Angelina at another museum (not their original restaurant in the 8th which is lovely) We felt they just coasted on the name and were over priced and uninspiring.

As usual, an excellent exposition in the Museum of Luxembourg! Paintings were illuminated by the ceilings light perfectly!!! there were no reflections of light on the paintings! It was very pleasant to look at them and to take great pictures of them! In many museums that I have visited, the way the paintings are illuminated is in 95% always wrong. So, Museum of Luxembourg is a great exception! Also the fact that I was allowed to take pictures was important to me - I continue enjoying the exposition at home as well! Also, the selection of paintings was EXCELLENT! So many beautiful paintings! Of course, the personel is always very friendly and polite there (this is my 3rd visit to an exposition in the Museum of L.). Thank you!!!

Most probably a former orange trees wintergarden, the small long building (more or less shaped like Jardin des Tuileries's Orangerie) used to house the French public collections of Modern Art in the early XXth (at times when French curators refused to accept most Renoir, Monet, Manet, Sisley and other great impressionist's masterworks given for free by consistent generous donators...
One can see that room is scarce as were "moder art" collections by then...
The place has been modernised and currently holds smaller exhibitions (than the more prestigious ones held at Galeries National du Grand Palais by the same Réunion des Musées Nationaux-RMN, French public museums authority).
Due to scarce place, exhibitions are quite specialist exhibitions, focusing on lesser known painters like Cima da Conegliano or Le Havre's great impressionist collectors and forerunners (currently as of November 2012).
Since RMN is always serious in its undertakings, most exhibitions are fairly good ones even if the number of paintings on display is limited by construction.
A place to visit whenever you have seen all the must see places of paris, meaning if you live in Paris...

Is a small part of the Palais du Luxembourg, which houses the Senate of Paris. You do not realize how small it is until you've paid 11e to get in. Just the one large room, and that's it. The exposition when I went was Giovanni Cima, no neither have I. Thought there'd be more, absolutely awful.

The museum was crowded on a Saturday afternoon, but it was worth the 15 minute (short) wait. We always check this museum out because it is within walking distance of our favorite hotel.
