Owner description: These formal gardens, open to only royalty before the French Revolution, now serve as one of Paris's most popular destinations for relaxation.

The expansive and well-tended Luxembourg Gardens are reminiscent of the formal Boboli Gardens in Florence (Italy), and is where Parisians go for a stroll, a game of tennis or of petanque. Children enjoy the Carousel, a puppet theatre and sail model boats in the large basin in front of the Palace.

Luxembourg Gardens was right down the street from our hotel, and right next to our closest metro stop. We took an evening stroll at dusk one night, and brought muffins from a local bakery the next morning and ate there. Very peaceful both times.

With each visit to Paris, we enjoy strolls through the beautiful and large Luxembourg Gardens. Also close to many wonderful cafes and restaurants.

I liked the layout of the park, its nice alleys, the pigeons and statues as well as the activities happening in the park. I didn't like we had to pay for the children to get into the play area in the park.

Yes, it was nice looking. Coming from a tropical climate the deciduous trees were exciting in late autumn but it was not as a splendorous attraction as we assumed. Not an activity to dedicate any real time too, but definitely worth a walk through whilst sightseeing.
It is very close to Notre Dame so I'd recommend combining the two places to one short trip.
