My wife and I visited the Moulin Rouge on the 19th August for our wedding anniversary, we were both very excited at the prospect of going to one of the worlds most famous shows - to say we were disappointed would be a huge understatement, considering we paid 90 euros each we expected something a little more special than what we got, basically we were given the worst seats in the house right in the very corner so the view was terrible, we requested to be moved and explained this was a very special occasion for us but the member of staff couldn't care less and was incredibly rude to us making us feel small.

Once seated the waiter came over to our table and poured us a glass of champagne, before we could even lift our glasses he promptly took them away explaining it was a mistake, how unprofessional!! he didn't even apologise for this error! We then asked if we could order a round of drinks but he simply walked away and ignored us so we had to sit throughout the whole show without a drink, this might not have been so bad were it not for the unbearable heat in there making the whole experience uncomfortable and not enjoyable in the slightest, have they not considered air conditioning? and if not then I think they should at least provide a free bottle of water for each guest, I felt like I was severely dehydrating in there!

My wife has wanted to go to the Moulin Rouge since she was a child, this was one of our main reasons for visiting Paris, the lack of professionalism, horribly rude staff and poor customer service in general completely ruined what should have been a very special occasion. There is no way what so ever that they can justify charging 90 euros for this show, we go to the theatre in London frequently and pay half the price for what is a much more entertaining and enjoyable experience in general, plus you get an interval so you can buy refreshments.

As for the actual show itself, well, I don't think they've updated it since the 80's, it was laughable, me and my wife were cringing on many occasions.

So if you're coming to Paris give this a miss, you won't have missed out anything apart from a terrible show and incredibly rude staff.

I honestly don't understand how the Moulin Rouge has not gone out of business yet. The food was horrible. I had one bite of each course and couldnt eat anymore. Later that night my friend was sick from the food. I am not exagerating when I say the food was horrible. If you must go to the Moulin Rouge skip the meal and just watch the show.

I found the show entertaining and so did my sister. Our friend, on the other hand thought the whole night was a complete waste of money. In total we spent 465€

We attended the Moulin Rouge show on August 11th of this year through a Paris tour company. We waited in line for one hour outside before they let us in. When the doors opened it was a stampede to get in. We had horrible seats on the next to the top row. We got a half glass of warm champaign. The show was less than awful..A amateurish miss mosh of bad dancing and songs that were lip sinked. And it went on and on. And on. There was one good ventriliquist. (When it was over we had to wait 45 for everyone to assemble on the bus to go back to our hotel. When we got back to our hotel at 2 am we found it locked and we had to bang on the doors for the night porter to let us in. All in all it was a horrible evening...total tourist trap.

We really loved the show, I think the historical aspect made the whole experience great. The theater does show quite a bit of wear. It could use a remodel. We saw the late show without the dinner. Our ticket did include a bottle of champange. The topless dancers were OK. I thought the costumes were just beautiful. We loved the ventritoquist with the little dog. He was fantastic, as were the other acts. As far as dress code, we saw everthing from tux to jeans, but no tee shirts. I think people wear what they want to. Like everything today the show is a bit over priced, but after all this is a once in a lifetime adventure. It was what we expected. If you love Paris, this is a must see.

We paid around $700 Australian for a package that included dinner and the Moulin Rouge show and a bottle of wine, plus minibus pickup and dropoff from our Paris apartment. Probably wouldn't repeat the experience (especially at that price), but pleased we went. The evening was a an utterly mad combination of topless dancers, a topless swimmer frolicking with anacondas in a perspex pool, a couple of cabaret singers, a juggler, some acrobats and the most astonishing exceedingly funny ventriloquist act involving a talking dog. While the dog and its owner probably (deservedly) got more applause than anyone else, pretty much all the acts are worthwhile although the cabaret singer performances weren't exactly must-sees.
The food was pretty ordinary - the foie gras ravioli in a watery soup was not exactly memorable, the duck for main course was overcooked and dessert wasn't anything special. Our package included a bottle of wine but if you work your way through that be prepared to pay 60 euros a bottle for fairly ordinary wine. (Quite drinkable, but nothing special for the price, although I saw one customer in the process of ordering a refill when he was hit by sticker shock.). Happy to be corrected on this, but if you opt not to get a dinner package and just buy a ticket to the show, there's a minimum drink charge of 110 euros (or something similiarly exorbitant) per person. That said, if you can get through the evening on dinner and a bottle of wine, it's a fairly entertaining night (in a Mel-Brooks-zany kind of way.)
After 15 minutes of the cabaret singers, I started to dread that it was going to be a long night. But I surrendered to the unique fantasy that is Moulin Rouge and ended up having a very funny evening. And I really can't imagine Nicole Kidman having anything to do with the place...

PS: You'll see a number of reviews mentioning dress standards. I wore a jacket and tie, a gentleman sitting next to us wore a dinner suit but neither of us probably needed to. Wear smart casual, pay Moulin Rouge's prices, and I'm pretty sure they'll let you in.
