Owner description: The city's largest public square has a lengthy history as well - it served as the site of the guillotine that was used to execute Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette, Robespierre and many others during the French Revolution.

I recommend to focus 100% on the Luxor obelisk and leave as soon as possible - extreme traffic, heat, surfaces reduced to concrete and asphalt make it a very pedestrian-unfriendly area (unless you are a fan of watching traffic anarchy during rush hours). Given the experiences, I would consider reaching the site in the evening if I were to repeat the visit.

The place is the largest square in Paris and is adorned with the great Luxor obelisk, a gift from Egypt to France. Viewing the obelisk compels one to think of and look up this information: what other great cities have such obelisks?

That's a legendary place, this and the famous place Vendome are the most see. This place was used for executions during the revolution, that's why it was renamed place de la Concorde (peace). It's said that the man who was in charge of bringing the obelisque to Paris killed himself because it was damaged. don't know if it's true or a legend, but you can see a crack on the obelisque and at that time people had strong professional conscience. It's said as well that the engineer responsible for lifting the obelisque placed himself underneath it when they were lifting it to put it on the place, so he would have been killed in case the ropes break. The garden des Tuileries near is well worth a look too.
