Owner description: With the Pantheon, architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot met Louis XV’s wish to glorify the monarchy in the form of a church dedicated to Saint Geneviève, the patron saint of Paris. The edifice was deconsecrated during the Revolution in 1791 and renamed the Pantheon. During the turbulent years of the 19th century, as regimes changed, it alternated in its role as a religious and patriotic monument. Since 1885, the year of Victor Hugo’s death and burial in the Pantheon, it has been the last resting place for the great writers, scientists, generals, churchmen and politicians who have made the history of France. The crypt houses the tombs of more than 70 illustrious figures including Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile Zola, Alexandre Dumas, Pierre and Marie Curie etc.Open:> 1st April to 30th September: from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.> 1st October to 31st March: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Last admission 45 minutes before closing time. It's an ok tourist attraction, but if you're not staying for long I think you should go somewhere else.

“Huge building, little content”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

The Pantheon is located in the Latin Quarter. It is a huge building and very pretty, but there isn't much inside it. Some famous people are buried here but most of it is empty.

“A highlight”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

I agree with some others that unless you want history, or studied art or architecture this may not light your fire, but one of the beauties of this masterpiece is that it doesn't have the crowds of the major "attractions." My wife and I had two major agenda's for sightseeing in Paris. One was the Arc, and two was the Pantheon. While here DO NOT miss the Church of Saint Genevieve behind it. Though not as large as Notre Dame it is magnificent to see, and for us at least diminished the awe of Notre Dame.

This place is just amazing!!! Before going in, read a little about its history. Besides the magnificent architecture and age, the interior holds tumbs of important french people.

“Interesting if you're in Paris for more than 5 days”
Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

Not on the top of the list of Paris attractions, but it remains a beautiful place. Worth he visit for its architecture, tombs of famous people such as Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas, as well as a pendule in the middle of Pantheon. Also loved the paintings.
