Owner description: Located right in the heart of Paris in the prestigious of the Hôtel national des Invalides, the museum is to one of the largest military history and art collections in the world, offering a unique overview of the history France. It is one of the 5 most visited museums in France, with over 1.4 million visitors in 2015. A remarkable site full of history, the Hôtel des Invalides was founded by Louis XIV to house veterans and wounded soldiers. It now forms the unique, prestigious setting the Musée de l’Armée. The museum's collections contain over 500.000 pieces, covering a period from the Middle Ages up to the present day and following a newly designed educational route: the armour and weapons of the Kings of France, swords, cannons, uniforms, paintings, photographs, the personal effects of important figures such as Françis I, Louis and Charles de Gaulle, plus the Dome church, which since 1861 has been home to the monumental tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, its golden dome reaching into the skies of Paris at over 110 metres high.

The collection is amazing, and there are audio guide headphones in english, but we found the exhibits were difficult to navigate. We never found the Louis XVI exhibit, but overall had a great time. The ppl at the info desk said to leave yourself 2 hours to see it all, but 4 is probably more like it if you're really interested. Great coverage of WW2 and American involvement.

While we only got to see the ancient armoury section and the two world wars section, and then went to see napoleons tomb, it was definitely not as exciting or as informative as I would have imagined. The audio guide is a must if you want to learn anything. But napoleons tomb is probably worthy of 5 mins of your time.

Despite having little interest in military history, I found a visit to this museum an interesting and rich experience. Exhibits are well displayed and explained. The only problem was time. We only had two hours and that was not enough!

there's a massively chocolate sarcophagus guarded by greek goddesses sculptures as the main object in the lower floor of otel les invalides. the lay out is rounded so we can walk along the circular line above the sarcophagus to enjoy some marble 3-dimensional relief and status related to his works in the wars, before entering the floor with his coffin. it's interesting to see those statues and reliefs instead of the tomb itself. very detail and came alive! my fave is the greek goddess with tiara leaves on her head.

This museum is right next to Napoleon's tomb. We were enthralled with this museum, especially the exhibits of the 1st and 2nd World Wars. I literally could have spent an entire day here! Such a fascinating museum!
