Owner description: Located right in the heart of Paris in the prestigious of the Hôtel national des Invalides, the museum is to one of the largest military history and art collections in the world, offering a unique overview of the history France. It is one of the 5 most visited museums in France, with over 1.4 million visitors in 2015. A remarkable site full of history, the Hôtel des Invalides was founded by Louis XIV to house veterans and wounded soldiers. It now forms the unique, prestigious setting the Musée de l’Armée. The museum's collections contain over 500.000 pieces, covering a period from the Middle Ages up to the present day and following a newly designed educational route: the armour and weapons of the Kings of France, swords, cannons, uniforms, paintings, photographs, the personal effects of important figures such as Françis I, Louis and Charles de Gaulle, plus the Dome church, which since 1861 has been home to the monumental tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, its golden dome reaching into the skies of Paris at over 110 metres high.

It is one of the best historic museum. First you have to visit the tomp of Napoleon in front of museum and after you need about one hour to see the army museum.

First,Napoleon's tomb is one of the mos impressive sights in Paris. The gold dome is something to see and from the inside, it's even more impressive.

The WWI and WW II sections are interesting to see and to get the French "perspective" on things. Their twist on losing to Germany in 6 weeks in WW II is a bit much and to declare their country as a "victor", well maybe in name only. They give very slim info on the deportation of 76,000 Jews from France during WW II and it's interesting to read their take on all of this. Pretty minimal coverage of the Holocaust.

Tons of weapons from the wars and pre-1900 wars with great digital maps of Waterloo and other battles.

For all the Guys out there.....this is a great change of pace from walking thru Overly crowded museums with hundreds of paintings. It was a great walk thru History with a good mix of military, weapons, art, duomo, and Napoleons tomb to top it off. This was an exhibit that we did not make plans for but I'm glad we squeezed in these 2 hours for only 9EUR.

This is a great exposition of military history, from dark ages till WWII. And as a museum it's great, I've seen a lot of interesting - and new for me - things. What I expected and didn't see was some original decoration of the halls. Except the hall of the Napoleon tomb it's just common museum rooms, nothing more.
Great, if you want to know more about the military history.
Wrong place, if you expect to see the interiors of an old beautiful building.

If you're the type who enjoys watching the History Channel and studying European history rather than Art History then this museum is probably going to top the Lourve/Rodin/Orsay for you. You buy one ticket to see the resting place of Napolean, explore a museum on world war 1/2, a museum on medevial armor/weapons, a museum on Charles de Gaule, and a museum on the era of royalty to the first republic to Napolean to Napolean III. Definitely if you like more recent european history (no ancient roman stuff here) and are a fan of war history.
