“Discrete and delightful!”
Reviewed March 12, 2010

If you are after a delightful stay in a secluded and discrete Parisian hotel then look no further. The Abbeye Saint-Germain is, as the phrase goes, small but perfectly formed. It beautifully furnished and treats guests with discrete politeness. An air of quiet efficiency runs through the hotel. If you want a stay in a showy establishment where you can taste the luxury at every turn then you'll need to seek out those - and there are quite a few in Paris -which boast restaurants, spas and uniformed flunkies. Here you get the feeling that you are staying in the posh yet homely hideaway of a rather grand friend. The courtyard garden is the jewel in the crown - a small yet lovely retreat after a busy day's gallery trudging. As I said, there is no restaurant but you can order croque monsieurs and other light dishes throughout the day and evening.

My wife and I celebrated our silver wedding anniversary by staying in a deluxe double room which was very comfortable and boasted a bathroom with more fluffy towels than I had body parts for. The bed was comfortable and storage space plentiful. Looking at the website snaps you might be forgiven for thinking that the decor was a tad migraine inducing - it was admittedly patterned rather enthusiastically in red - but believe, once inside it seemed delightfully swish.

Is it expensive? Well yes but you are paying for a beautiful hotel in one of Paris's better arrondissements. I'd say it's a perfect place from which to tour Paris and celebrate a special occasion. You are no more than three minutes walk form the nearest Metro station and getting to and from Eurostar's Gare du Nord on the underground is no problem if you're happy manhandling your own suitcases. Are there grander hotels? Certainly, but you'll pay more and won't want to leave those establishments in case you don't get your money's worth! We both enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

Just back from a trip to Paris and stay at L'Abbaye with my neice. It was a cold week and the hotel provided welcome refuge. First impressions were excellent; we were welcomed warmly by the staff and found the hotel's communal spaces very cozy and inviting. Fireplace in the sitting room was more than decorative, and while we couldn't enjoy breakfast in the garden, the conservatory was a great 'next best thing'. As others have said, the small rooms are typical of Paris. But the small built in wardrobes -- one for each of us -- were handy and made it easy for us to keep our room reasonably tidy. (no small feat for my teenage niece). Bathroom big enough and nicely done with a great shower. We liked the girly feel of the decor.

Breakfast was excellent 'continental', and was included in the price we paid for our room.

I can't say if this is the best hotel for the money, but it was certainly better than any of the other Paris hotels I've stayed at over the years. I''ve often been amazed at how unfriendly staff can be in big city hotels -- but not here -- very nice indeed.

My spouse and I stayed at L'Abbaye Saint - Germain for 5 days in February 2010. The staff were most helpful with directions and reservations at local restaurants. The rooms were excellent and the bathroom in our junior suite couldn't have been better. The hotel is spotless and in a safe area of Paris.

This is a lovely hotel tucked behind a courtyard in a quiet street very close to the St. Sulpice metro stop. The staff is very attentive and friendly. They gave us some good recommendations for nearby restaurants. A lovely continental breakfast was included and could be served at any time in our room--helpful with a late-sleeping teenager. Proximity to the metro was a plus, and the neighborhood is lovely. Only minus is that the room was a bit overheated and I couldn't seem to get the temperature adjusted. The decor and furnishings were attractive, and the bath was very modern and spacious.
