Owner description: Salvador Dali, the master of surrealism in Paris! Espace Dali, located in the heart of the famous artists' village, Montmartre, exhibits the largest collection of artworks by Salvador Dali in France. Dali as you have never seen before! The collection is the fruit of the emblematic surrealist artist's extravagant inspiration: theatrical sculptures, erotic, dreamlike or irresistibly humorous engravings, poetic objects and furniture, are all part of the phantasmagorical universe of the inventor of soft watches. The multiple facets of the Catalan Master 3D Surrealism Thanks to Dali, everything can be transformed by the magic of dreams: the Space Elephant with spindly legs seems to defy gravity, a watch melts from a branch, a snail spreads its wings and Venus has drawers. Stories and wonders Dali had an encyclopedic culture and was fascinated by major themes from literature, mythology and religion. He used many different techniques to illustrate universal texts: Alice in Wonderland, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, The Bible... As well as more personal works, such as Moses and Monotheism or The Alchemy of the Philosophers. Each book is an art object. Sculptures, drawings, water colors, engravings, lithographs, Espace Dali invites us to explore the main themes of his work: dreams, mythology, sensuality...

“Something different and worth the change”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

I dragged my wife here and she enjoyed it. Dali is different Art. You don't need to understand it but feel it. The AV display is good and overall the museum is small but fascinating. You can 10 minutes or 2 hours subject to how deep you look.

Go to experience something different that is not all large paintings. We did as part of Paris Pass so free entry.

Note:

1. Stairs Only.

2. It is on a minor street off the Sacre Coeur near the flea market so a little hard to find but not impossible as some reviewers who gave 1 star said? How can you give 1 star to something because YOU cannot find it?!?!

3. We ate the restaurant next door with the large vine covered terrace and recommend it.

“Surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

What a pleasant surprise. The largest collection of Dali sculptures in the world! I had no idea how interesting and informative this small, relatively speaking, museum would be.

I have been a Dali fan for years but never expected such a large amount of his work, many works on paper never before seen in books or on the internet. Series of works include the Old Testament, Bible, Tristan and Isolde, Hamlet and others.

The store at the end - a gallery in and of itself - was incredible with many original signed works of art.

A little harder to find than most but well worth the effort.

“Unimpressive collection”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

My overall impression is that this museum is too small and contains only minor Dali works; its not worth 11 Euros. As others have said, unless you really like Dali, skip this museum.

There are some interesting sculpture, one semi-interesting video and the rest of the museum is made up of framed sketches from Dali, most of them seem like afterthoughts instead of exhibition ready pieces.

Spend the time relaxing in a Montmarte cafe instead.

“a must for Dali enthusiasts”

my husband was hesistant at first but was wowed by the outrageous Dali pieces and film clips - a very eccentric artist displayed brilliantly in a space that compliments his work so well!

I had a breathtaking experience visiting this wonderful museum that shows Dali at his absolute best! Paintings, sculptures from a mind that only Dali possessed!
