“Nice hotel, even better location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2010

Having just returned from spending a weekend in their suite, I can certainly recommend the Bourg Tibourg. The location cannot be beat, in a little street of the Marais district, which is one of the most bohemian areas of Paris. The Louvre, Notre Dame are within an easy 15 minutes walking distance.

The hotel is definitely best described by the term “bijou”. Reception is understated, but very comfortable, like an old world living room. The suite was a good size, with lots and lots of storage, state of the art Bang & Olufsen TV, but some also some weird aspects: very cramped bathroom with no space to hang towels, no mirrors in the room (apart from bathroom), and a very old TV and discman (!) in the sitting room area of the suite. The décor is very old world, with carpet throughout, even on the walls!

Other rooms are reputed to be very small, but as I said before, you’re paying for the location here. Breakfast is not included, so I didn’t try. They have an impressive gothic-style sitting room/breakfast room, and a lovely internal courtyeard. Seems like a missed opportunity that there is no bar in the hotel, although I think they do serve drinks if requested. Reception staff have good tips for nearby restaurants.

This hotel ticks all the positive boxes, free wi-fi, nice rooms, etc...

On a final note: if you are claustrophobic, avoid the lift which is the smallest I have ever seen!

i've stayed at Hotel Bourg Tibourg a couple of times when I've gone to Paris. What a great place to stay! It's located in Le Marais district which has plenty of great restaurants and bars as well as some great stores for shopping - all within walking distance. The hotel is itself is small but beautifully decorated. The room I stayed in was small but very very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and very accommodating. And yes....be careful of the elevator - it can only take 2 people at a time and if you've have luggage or lots of shopping bags - someone will be taking the stairs!

I go on the theory that I'm in Paris to enjoy the French culture - the food, the wine....not to stay in hotel room! If you're someone who wants a large hotel room - this hotel probably isn't for you.

Best kept secret in le Marais! Tres chic! A big plus, the shops in le Marais are open on Sundays. Close to everything and the best Metro line - Ligne 1

We stayed at the hotel on our return trip staying in the Marais, and loved it!! The rooms were tiny, but elegantly furnished. It felt like staying in a gypsy caravan for 3 nights. The bed was comfy and the bath was hot and deep. Loved it.

Best of all the staff was so helpful!!! We were there over Valentines, and they found us a cute place for dinner. I would definitely stay there again!

The only drawback is that it's in the middle of things, so if you're a light sleeper i would suggest going somewhere else.

The location, right in the middle of the Marais, is great you re close to the centre pompidou and the there are a lot of bars and restaurant in the neighborhood, jewish food in rue des rosiers only 2 minutes away and great shopping in rue des franc bourgois/ rue vielle du Temple around the corner. The hotel is very nice, cool and belongs to the same group as the bigger( more expensive) Hotel Costes). Decoration is very warm , cosy and relaxing
The room are incredibly tinny, even the deluxe one are so small that when you open the door the bed is already in the way, there is no space for luggage storage and you cannot really move around basically there is just a bed, a tv and the bathroom ( size ok). There is no restaurant in the hotel, breakfast is in the basement but there is no choice if you order it you get a selection of bred and fruits but cannot chose anything else. The rooms are very dark , there is no light on the ceiling and it's not possible to read . The hotel feels nice and trendy and if you re alone and don't spend much time in the hotel then it might be fine but I for 2 the rooms are really to small. Internet ( wifi ) is free but not stable. Prices ( around 230 Euro) are too high for so small rooms. Rooms facing the streets ( most of them) can be noisy in the summer as there are bars in the street and people stay outside to smoke .

We've passed by Hotel Bourg Tibourg on previous visits to the Marais and wished we were staying there so this time we splashed out and booked in.

The location of the hotel is perfect. The Marais is still my favourite area of Paris with a huge variety of shops, bars, boulangeries and restaurants right on the doorstep and central enough to get anywhere quickly.

We knew when we booked that the rooms were going to be small but we nearly had a fit when we saw our room on check in. Small didn't quite cover it - it was tiny with nowhere to even store a case, a safe door that couldn't be opened because it was too close to the mini bar, sombre lighting and an unnecessary table and stools at the foot of the bed. I returned to reception and asked if they had any larger rooms available and was so pleased to be moved to another classic room that was far superior - light, airy and with plenty of wardrobe space to stow away clothes and cases. Not too much to ask when one is paying 230 euros for a room, methinks!

The decor is lovely. In a sort of Morrocan style but pared down, with white bed linen and black marble. The lampshades had tassles aplenty and the walls were edged in ornate gold cornicing. The bed was comfy despite the fact that it was a twin zipped together. The bathroom was lovely although a little dark (no window in this one after our move) with lovely smelling toiletries. The telly was Bang and Olufsen and there was a DVD player tucked underneath (although we didn't try it out).

Staff at the front desk were lovely, always warm and friendly and happy to book restaurants for us.

Oh and not forgetting the lift. The hotel has the tiniest lift I have ever been in. Just space for two people provided that they know each other well. It clanks and creaks but it gets the job done (which is nice at the end of a day of schlepping) provided you are patient!

There were some downsides, though. The room was quite noisy. This didn't bother me massively but if you are a light sleeper or like an early night it might annoy. Those twin beds make snuggling up a little uncomfortable (surely a mattress topper to cover the ridge in the middle isn't too much to ask?). The cleaners did an excellent job but had a habit of leaving their vacuum cleaner hoses lying around on the landings making the narrow corridors a bit perilous. Any extras would be rather expensive - breakfast was 16 Euros per person, there were no bottles of free water or tea/coffee making facilities.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but I am not sure if the end justifies the means. 230 Euros per night is a lot of money for not a lot of hotel (especially seeing as it is essentially a B&B. No restaurant here). If you decide to stay then don't bother paying for an upgrade to superior (we saw a superior room and it really wasn't) but do make sure you complain if the room you get is too small to be habitable - staff are very accommodating.

For the record the room we refused was 25 (and similarly other rooms ending in 5 are likely to be the same judging by the floor plans in the hall) and we were moved to 34 which was a big improvement.

I'm till excited when I think of my stay in this beautiful hotel. Sumptuous, unique, gorgeous, classy. What can I say??? It is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. I came home wanting to redecorate my bedroom! If you want large rooms, this is not for you, but if you appreciate something different you will love it.
