This has the history of Paris, the artifacts and complete shopfronts and the preserved inside rooms of some of the grand old houses of Paris, the traditional Parisienne gardens are great to just sit in. No cafe nearby so take your own water bottle on a hot day.

The musee Carnavalet is a museum about the History of Paris. It is located in a beautiful old mansion in the heart of the Marais district, a very old part of Paris; it also has a very beautiful garden, typical jardin a la francaise. At the moment, there are big restorations works going on so there are scaffoldings on part of the buildings and some of the rooms, like the galerie Sevigne, are closed, which was a disappointment. Still, the musee Carnavalet is well worth a visit on its own but it is also just near the famous Place des Vosges so you can visit the museum on your way to Place des Vosges. We will certainly go there again once the renovation work is finished. Before or after that you can go and have a delicious falafel sandwich rue des Rosiers, another very interesting area of Paris.

The collection is extensive, but it's difficult to find your way around and there seems to be no logical order (the last room I got to was in fact the one dedicated to the EARLIEST time of Paris pre-roman times). Still, I guess you can't really complain since it costs nothing to enter. Also the neighborhood is really nice
