Didn't take a pram (mistake, although these can be rented for free), massive building which is a bit like a rabbit warren - we got lost more than once! Plenty to see, but you'll only make the most of it if you are a proper Art buff, but free for young people, which I think is good (although I'm too old!)

I appreciate the art and the history of the Louvre, but would suggest to do the museum over a couple of days. After a while it all begins to look the same. The cafes are not very good and the lines are terrible so buy your tickets online and eat before you visit. They also sell out of the audio kits - another reason to book online!

We saw half the exhibits and took three hours, exhausted. Eat before! Lots to see and take in. Lots of repetition esp the Christian paintings.

Buy your tickets ahead of time. I'm not sure why people wouldn't, but there is a very long line punishing you when you arrive. The Louvre is the best museum in the world. It is far too big see all in one day, but boy did we try. Mona Lisa was so disappointing because there were so many people trying to take pictures in front of it. I wish they had a better system to usher people through, but they don't. I think it is a good idea to get the audio guides, we didn't anticipate that the signs and information was only in French (typical American!) but that made us a little less informed about the art. Following the Louvre, we went out and had a picnic at the gardens. It was a perfect way to recharge after a lot of walking!

While the layout is confusing this place is amazing. The art and antiquities are stunning. Get there on opening and you'll get a couple of hours before the crowds become overbearing. Here's a hint - use a side entrance (marked for groups) - security doesn't mind and you won't have to line up. The line on the plaza (near the glass pyramid) is not for tickets, it's just security!
