I have stayed at about 20 hotels in Paris over the years, including the Ritz, Montalembert, Tremoille, Napoleon, and small hotels like Jeu du Paume on Ile St. Louis. I have come to prefer hotels that feel like where they are: very British in London, very French in Paris. The Caron de Beaumarchais fits that bill.
It's in a great location, just off Rue Rivoli in the heart of the Marais. It's tiny and utterly charming. The decor evokes the 18th c. with toile fabrics, chandeliers, and antiques. I had a front-facing room with a flowered windowbox overlooking the street. The rooms are very, very small, but they feel so special. Very clean and nice bathroom.
The Marais is one of the hottest, hippest parts of Paris with lots of cafes and boutiques. Near the sublime Place des Vosges, it's a great place for strolling.
Convenient to the Metro, it's easy to get everywhere in the city.
If you want a standard, corporate hotel, the Caron de Beaumarchais is not for you. But if you want to open your window and feel like you are in Paris, "c'est formidable."More
