Owner description: The Arc de triomphe was begun in 1806, on the orders of Napoleon I to honour the victories of his Grande Armée. Inspired by the great arches of antiquity, the monument combines the commemorative with the symbolic and it has always played a major role in the national republican consciousness. Every evening, the flame is lit on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Great War. An exhibition portrays the history and explains its symbolic importance, nationally as well as internationally. The terrace provides superb views both by day and night across the city and its great sweeping avenues.-Opening hours : April to September: from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; October to March: from 10 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.-Closed: 1st January, 1st May, 8th May (morning), 14th July (morning), 11th November (morning), 25th December-Entry fees: Adults = 9,5 €; Concessions = 6 €; Free admission: 18-25 years old* (citizens of one of the 27 countries of the EU or are non-European permanent residents of France) * excluding school groups

“Massive Monument”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

This thing was actually bigger than what we had expected. Clearly visible from the far end of the Champ Elysee, once standing in its shadow, it is a menacing and noble structure. Looks amazing at night as well.

“A+++”

If in Paris, add it to your short list of things to do. Views are a must see.

Note-worthy: Museum pass allows you to bypass lines/ques.

“A Must Visit”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Visited both day and night. Extremely busy but great for photos and to see a great landmark in Paris. Unfortunately we didn't get to go to the top but will do when i visit again.

“Obligatory visit in Paris”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Yes, this is something everyone visiting Paris should see, take a picture and ponder about the past times when France was the world power. Watch out some scam when somebody will aproach you asking whether you lost gold ring or bracelet. If you take it, he will come back asking about the money.

“Well worth all the stairs...”
Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

During mine and my partners valentines trip to Paris, we decided to take the trip up the arc de triomphe. First thing I would like to mention is if you are planning to see a few attractions whilst I advise you to get the museum pass, as the crew at this attraction was HUGE! But beens we had the pass we skipped the whole queue. The first lot of stairs went up in a spiral and seemed to go on forever ( this is the first of three, but these were the biggest set). At the top of this set, you found some information about the arc which was interesting. After the second set of stairs there was some info, sculptures and a very good tourist shop with resonable prices beens your in a major attraction. After you decide to climb the last flight of stairs, you reach the top! Some of the views from a couple of sides werent nothing special but once you walk round you can look down champs elysees, with the effiel tower and wheel clearly in the distance which looks amazing and a picture with your partner is a must!! Great memories!
