“Amazing collection”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

This museum, housed in a former private residence, holds the largest collections of Monet's painting in the WORLD. If you are a lover of the French Impressionists, then you MUST make the effort to find this out-of-the-way museum. We visited the Marmatton the day after we visited Monet's gardens at Giverny, so we had great context to compare Monet's interpretation with the way the gardens actually look today. In addition to the Impressionists are painting from Napoleon's era and, surprisingly, a great collection of medieval illuminated manuscripts.

“Impressionism par excellence”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Tucked away in the 16th arrondissement, this former private home houses an enviable collection of the most famous of Impressionist paintings, including the paitning by Monet which gave the movement its name, although derisorilygiven in a negative revue by a famous art critic of the time. An enjoyable detour from central Paris.

“fabulous small museum”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

The Marmottan is in a gorgeous neighborhood in the 16th arrondissement, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne. It is an old, elegant home and the collection of Monets and other French impressionists including Berthe Morissot is truly impressive.
Visitors can get quite close to the paintings, and there are rarely crowds there. There are often interesting temporary exhibits as well that are worth exploring.
The environment in which the paintings are displayed is so gorgeous that the whole experience feels like a feast for the senses.

“Cute museum but not a must do”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This museum is what we call a "hotel particulier" (private hotel) very typical of the 19th and early 20th bourgeois architecture where one (rich family) used to live. The area es ia very posh Parisian district, near the Ranelagh garden. The museum in itself is famous for housing an important collection of impressionist paintings especially ones from Monet. It is a very nice museum which I can recommend if you live in Paris or are staying a lot of time.

“Monet and friends”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Definitely a must for anyone who is an admirer of Monet - many works of his as well as his peers. Lovely setting in a mansion, a bit of a walk from the nearest Metro but pleasant as it goes through a park.
