Owner description: Located in a 19th-century mansion, this museum's fabulous collection of Impressionist paintings ranks second only behind the Musée d'Orsay.

70 of her paintings, most from the Laurencin museum in Japan. We loved the show, the museum and the surrounding neighborhood.

Our visit to the museum was disappointing as one of us could not negotiate stairs and there was no public elevator available. Fortunately, Monet's paintings are concentrated on the ground floor, but we had to skip half of the museum's other exhibits.

Although a little bit out of the way, the Musee Marmottan is well-worth a visit. It's famous for its collection of works by Monet, including Impression Sunrise, famous for giving name to the Impressionists. And it has a large collection of works by Berthe Morrissot. There's a wonderful little park nearby and if you walk down some of the streets in the area, you can experience a real Parisian neighborhood without the hoards of tourists.

Since I have been fortunate enough to have vacationed in Paris quite a bit, this trip I decided to visit Musee Marmottan in the La Muette area of Paris. This museum setting is in a grandly renovated Parisien residence with all the ambience you would expect. On top of that, there are Monet paintings on the walls! This is a very manageable museum, taking about 1 hour to tour. It has many rooms of beautiful art, and it the total package visually. A must see.

Don't overlook this less than main stream jewel. Outstanding exhibits of Monet's work, along with other impressionists and friends such as Rodin. Set in a mansion donated along with all it's furnishing and artifacts for the establishment of this special tribute to both art and the artist, this was a wonderful and relaxing find compared to the crowds at many of the better known museums. Excellent crowd control makes for a truly enjoyable experience where you can actually see and spend time with the art. The audio guide not only illuminates the art showcased, but Monet's many friendships among the greats of his time. An intimate and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Great little gift shop with classy take aways. Would go back again and again.
