Owner description: Located in a 19th-century mansion, this museum's fabulous collection of Impressionist paintings ranks second only behind the Musée d'Orsay.

The museum is small in size but offers the best exhibition in Paris of the painter Claude Monet. Some of the museum rooms were built especially to best expose Monet's nympheas.

The Musee is well described by other reviewers, but I will add that we went to Paris after several previous visits, looking for new places to go, and spotted this in the guide book. I can't believe we haven't heard of it, but now we've been we will recommend it to everyone. There was a special exhibition on, which added to the thrill of the visit.

Although somewhat out of the way, Marmottan is in a lovely part of Paris, quite civilised and more residential, and the collection is world famous. There are some essential works by Monet that also show his difficulty with painting after his eyesight started to deteriorate, and how he overcame it. They are housed in a lovely small villa which is very sylish and well furnished. This is not the place to go if time is precious, but for those with more leasure it can be memorable.

A private home with interesting rooms from the 19th century as well as treasured paintings of Monet. It is located next to a little park where in fine weather one can see The Marionettes of Ranlaigh. The museum is a must for Monet fans in combination with going to Giverny. Back to back excursions to both will find the Monet fan in 7th heaven!
