“It's the Eiffel Tower, after all”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Does the Eiffel Tower really need to be reviewed? It is absolutely as magnificent and breathtaking in person as you would believe, and much more. We had a thrill just being in it's presence, let alone dining underneath it at Les Ombres restaurant, and taking the Skip the Line tour of rlookouts and history. Definitely check out both of those!

I never felt at risk of safety or pickpocketing. Just watch out for the group of people selling cheap Eiffel Tower miniature statues. Don't make eye contact, keep walking past them, keep your wallet in your front pocket, and you will be perfectly fine. Absolutely do not miss this during the day, and don't miss the sparkling on the hour at night!

“Great view, even for the faint hearted”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

We arrived two days after a security scare so there were lots of Police and Armed soldiers patrolling. This was excellent as it kept away most of the scam artists that normally congregate under the tower. There's a lot of work going on at level 1 and 2 at present so it's a bit like visiting a building site, but it's about the view really.

We bought prepaid tickets from the official Eiffel tower website(beware imitations) for the lift which guarantee your trip to the summit, this appears to only allow you to skip the queue at street level. Once at the second stage we had trouble finding where the queue for the lift to the summit started. Once in the queue you have to be on the ball to stop someone queue jumping ahead of you, until you get into the metal snaking part of the queue.. It's quite a view from the top even for someone like me that hates heights. We had planned to celebrate at the summit with a glass of Champagne from the kiosk, but it does not open until midday, and at 12 euro's we decided not to wait for them to open and bought a couple of bottles of wine from the supermarche for the evening instead.

I mentioned the scammers earlier, normally it's the dropped wedding ring scam, but this years new scam is to get you to sign a petition, they then claim you have signed to give them money, if anyone approached us they dealt with in short shrift.

A feeling of grandeur in the city of lights. You can't visit Paris without having a bunch of pictures with this thing, can you?

“Excellent, a must visit in Paris.”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Excellent and awesome views of Paris. Strongly recommended, a very essential tourist attraction, keep your cameras fully charged before visit, or carry one extra fully charged battery for many n many good photo shoots. My suggestion to the authority is that they should give fixed time entrance tickets to visitors( we wasted TWO hours waiting in queue. The approx cost to a family of five in Thomas Cook Package tour is approx 1000€/day, so two hours wasted in queue is approx wastage of minimum 200-300€. The authority can charge little extra for fixed time entry.
