Owner description: This beautiful museum, once a railroad station, now houses a staggering collection of Impressionist art, as well as other items created between 1848 and 1914. In 2011, the museum is running a renovation of the top floor (impressionist gallery). Only ground and medium floor are accessible. The top floor will re-open on the 20th of October. Meanwhile, some impressionist masterpieces are not visible.

Seems to be forgotten next to the Louvre, but this museum has high quality art from many French and overseas artists, good explanations, a great audio-guide, and easy to navigate. Do-able in a day as well! Excellent cloakroom service; lousy food!

We had limited time during our visit to Paris in September 2011 and so decided on d'Orsay rather than the Louvre - we were not disappointed. What a magnificent building (converted railway station) wonderful architecture. The other influencing factor in our decision was that we wanted to see Monet's work and d'Orsay has a large Monet collection - only 8 on exhibition when we were there - would have liked more - but it was fantastic to see these. Plenty of other art to enjoy - a real cross-section - we had a most enjoyable visit.

Amazing collection. Wall to wall masterpieces. I hadn't realised that pretty much all of the most famous impressionist works live here! The only downside- eating and drinking forbidden in the whole museum, except for the tiny cafe downstairs and the very expensive cafe upstairs. I was with a child who needs frequent pit stops!

I would get a book or two in order to prepare for the experience. If you love art, it is not possible to see the whole museum in one day. You should decide what periods, movements, artists, works you would like to see. It is not a bad idea to start with Impressionism upstairs. Their summer exhibits were outstanding every time as well. Don't miss Van Gogh on the first floor (now unfortunately in the dark room).

Musee d'Orsay was high on our list of Paris must sees, being great lovers of Art particularly from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We were not disappointed, great art well curated and magnificent building.
