Owner description: This beautiful museum, once a railroad station, now houses a staggering collection of Impressionist art, as well as other items created between 1848 and 1914. In 2011, the museum is running a renovation of the top floor (impressionist gallery). Only ground and medium floor are accessible. The top floor will re-open on the 20th of October. Meanwhile, some impressionist masterpieces are not visible.

Yes the Louvre is THE museum in Paris, but you will enjoy the Orsay more, First you can actually see the whole place in a solid 1/2 day, Secondly this place offers more to someone who loves art but is not an academic. Get there 20 minutes before opening, and preferably on a weekday, and the line to get in will be fine,

Check before you buy a museum pass. Today, 23 Oct 2012, most museums in Paris, including the d'Orsay and Rodin, were closed because of a worker strike. The's no information on how long they will be closed. We bought a four day pass and don't know now if we'll ever be able to use it.

In my opinion, this the the best gallery I have visited anywhere. The impressionist collection is unbeatable - and try to have lunch in the restaurant, which is the former dining room of the railway station that occupied the building in its former life. The food is very good, the prices reasonable and the decor is stunning.

Was looking for certain Impressionist pieces and had to do some asking around to find which floor they were on. Once we managed to make it up to the top floor, we enjoyed all of excellent master works. Post-Impressionist pieces on the third floor were an extra added bonus.

Went on 1st Sunday of Month and they waive the entrance fee. The line also goes faster. Go up to the top floor and check out views of Paris through large glass clock
