“Don't Bother”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

I went to this today with my husband, 14-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son, thinking, like others have, that it would give a good overview of the city's history. In fact it was awful and I'm really annoyed we wasted our money and a precious hour in Paris.

(1) It's really nothing more than an amateurish powerpoint presentation with a cheesy commentary in French which skims the surface of a few periods of history and glosses over others (the two World Wars are given about 30 seconds). There's very little film footage - it's mostly photos.

(2) We were given headphones and told that the English commentary would be on channel 1. I imagined there would be a French commentary on another channel and a German one on another, etc. What actually happens is that the presentation is given in French and you listen to the commentary in your own language through the headphones. This makes it hard to understand because you're distracted by the French commentary.

(3) The whole thing is more of a "Paris is such a beautiful city" thing with very little real content. Years ago there was a multi-media presentation in Sydney about the history of Sydney and it was brilliantly done. I had expected this to be similar but it was nothing like it.

(4) I speak French and listened to a bit of the French commentary, mainly because the English one was disjointed in parts and confusing. Parts of the French commentary weren't actually translated which left the English speakers wondering what they were seeing.

As my husband has just commented, if this were a free film, he would have walked out after a few minutes. As it was, we kept hoping it would get better so we stayed.

The best I can say is that the miniature 3-D map of Paris in the foyer is brilliant. As for the presentation itself, save your money.

“A wonderful educational background”
Reviewed January 24, 2013 via mobile

I visited with my 11 yr old son and brought the ticket which was included in our Paris card, it was a wonderful start to understanding the history of Paris and would definitely recommend this to anyone who is visiting as culture vultures like us, it's not just about visiting a city it's experiencing it and this attraction was very informative and was like siting in a history lecture, we enjoyed this immensely and definitely if the weather is cold or damp. It is not far from the famous shopping centre and is in easy access to the metro.

“Make This your First Stop In Paris”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

If you aren't an afficianado of Paris history there is a wonderful little attraction in Rue Stride (50 metres from the rear of the Paris Opera House). I feel this is a ''must see'' before you start viewing all the art, historic & architectural sights and venues that make up Paris. This 50 minute presentation, available in most languages, has been lovingly developed to provide visitors to Paris with a pocket history of the little settlement of Roman times to the wonderful city that it has now become. We got around to seeing this on day 6 of our 11 day stay and thought what a great thing to do before wandering around through the Tuilleries or the Place de La Concorde and know the history behind it all. I highly recommend this attraction before you do any sightseeing in Paris.

“Don't waste your time or money”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

What a disappointment. The Paris Story comprises a 50 minute video which somehow managed to teach us absolutely nothing about Paris. The sound quality and script were both poor and the most interesting parts of Parisian history were glossed over. We have been to similar exhibitions in other cities and this was the worst by far.

“Interesting hour”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

This is really worth a visit, particularly if it's raining or you are feeling leg-weary.
It's a genuine multi-projector audio-visual show which charts the history of this amazing city in an entertaining manner. Various language headsets are supplied and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This is a good way to orient yourself with the city before heading out onto the double-decker red buses !
