“Rustic charm”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Lovely atmospheric, cosy bistro in Montmartre. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly and accommodating. Still busy in October so could be difficult in high season although they will try to cram you in. Reasonably priced for fairly standard, well prepared food, a lovely rustic place worth a visit, about €57 for two courses each and a bottle of Côtes du Rhone (about 370 French Francs quoted on the bill!).

“Good food for good price”
Reviewed September 25, 2012 via mobile

Good food for a good price: about €22,- per person for a set menu (starter, main and desert) and a glass of wine.
The waiters speak good English (I even heard one speaking Italian) and do not mind explaining the dishes.
There was no need whatsoever to find a different place the eat the next day, so we had diner here again.

“Old world atmosphere and a good price”
Reviewed May 8, 2012 via mobile

Standard food offerings for a French bistro... Dined on boeuf bourguignon and faux fillet, with mousse de chocolate for dessert. Food quality was good - especially for the price. The ambiance was delightful, dinning area consisted of long benches for communal atmosphere, surrounded by old stone and set around a old century fireplace. Place had mix of tourists and locals, with the former not being typically obnoxious.

Will definitely return for more hearty fare!

“Simple cheap and friendly - a real find”
Reviewed May 8, 2012

We were looking for a meal on our first night in Paris, staying in Montmartre and found this little place. The tables are jammed in rows into the small dining room, it's a real French arrangement - you are shoulder to shoulder with your neighbours. The food was good quality, and we had a three course fixed price menu for only 12 Euros. The drink was reasonably priced for Paris, but be warned, all drink in Paris eateries is astonishingly expensive by our (UK) standards.

“Warning! Not a place to go to!”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

We live 500 yards from the Tavern but we only visited it once and that was quite enough never to go there again. The place looks nice from outside but do not be fooled.
The waitress was in a bad mood and giving us bad looks. We had to wait for 40 minutes for our soup and when it arrived it was the wrong kind of soup so we had to wait some more. When it finally arrived it was cold, in chipped bowls and there was a small sneil shell floating on top of my wife's soup. That was vegetable soup so we are not sure if the sneil was a bonus.

Then the main meal arrived and it was quite poor and dry. During all the time we had to wait the daughter of the owners was helping herself of the customer's food, and insulting people in French apparently convinced that they would not inderstand.

What topped it up though was the apron of the cook when he appeared for a moment: absolutely filthy.

So do not go there unless you want to eat cold, dry food in chipped dishes and be insulted for a bonus.
