Please be warned that although this hotel is called Hotel des Arts Montmartre it is NOT IN MONTMARTRE, There is a hotel there called simply Hotel des Arts and it is very good. This however is not and not good value for money.List of faults: Bedding threadbare, towels very old and the coloured one covered in what looked like bleach stains. Radiator on full blast and couldnt turn it off, toilet paper not replenished, room not cleaned and bin not emptied.Noplug for the bath and no rail forthe shower so had to hold myself. Not always hot water at night. On the plus side manager very helpful for leaving bags etc and had good English,

I chose this B&B as I needed somewhere affordable in Paris. For 45 euros (via budget places) I stayed in a tiny room and barely got any sleep.

Bathroom was 2 floors down - the shower was merely a hose over the bath. There was a shower screen in it's packaging but clearly they hadn't been bothered putting it up yet.

I had a sausage shaped 'continental ' pillow - that was split everywhere and wrapped in a ripped (and carefully folded) pillow case to conceal the rotting pillow beneath.

I had a sheet to cover me and an ancient bedspread and a minging bobbled old blanket which not even my granny had... It looked like it had never been washed.

There was a fire alarm at 1130pm which the owner told everyone to ignore... Once we were up and downstairs - this went on for 15 minutes.

No matter how cheap you think a deal is - always check out what you're paying for -.then treat yourself to another 20 euros.

I felt like I was in a miserable hostel with no hospitality shown to me at all.

This is a very basic budget hotel within walking distance of the Sacre Coeur and the Gard du Nord. Our room was described as having an en suite bathroom with shower. The hotel had obviously been renovated fairly recently - our ensuite had been created in the corner of what had originally been a small room making the room tiny and the bathroom just big enough for a 1/2 sized bath - the shower was hand held and you had to sit in the bath with your knees up to your chin to bathe. There was a rickety closet with a few bent wire coat hangers. No mirror anywhere except the bathroom and only one power outlet.

However it was clean and the bed was comfortable and we didn't spend any time in the room other than to sleep. There was also plenty hot water.

The hotel was very handy for numerous restaurants and Metro stations. When we left we walked with our luggage to the Gard du Nord - 15 minutes.

Room Tip: Rooms are all above street level and reached by a winding staircase. Difficult with large bags.

We booked this hotel for a special occasion and mistakenly read the reviews for Hotel des Arts on rue Tholoze in the 18eme (a 3* but worth more) near Blanche Metro station. This one is at max 1* and not worth the €80 price tag.
A MASSIVE disappointment.

Rumour is that Mary and Joeseph could have got a room here but chose the stable. I don't blame them.

As smoking is prevalent in hotels in France the rooms smell positively toxic. My room had cigarette burns in the carpet, and bed linen. In fact the bed linen didnt even cover the bed properly. The wifi does't work above level 2. The shared toilets are in what must have been broom closets and are uncomfortably narrow. The staff's ability to speak English disappears when there are any problems.

The place is cheap and in Paris you get what you pay for. The location is well serviced by public transport and if you are just looking for a place to sleep this will do.

No elevator - if you have bigger suitcase and need to go spiral stairs up - not comfortable. Floors seem to be going down so you get yourself into postion where you are sleeping with your head lower than the legs or rolling out of bed. Bathroom stinks due to old pipes. Location is comfortable as it is close to Monmartre.
