We stayed at #41 which is located near Notre Dame Cathedral and we really enjoyed our stay. The view of the cathedral's spire from the kitchen window of the apartment is amazing! No chance of a sleep in as the bells toll at 8am each morning - which was fine for us as it acted as our 'alarm clock' ! There are no supermarkets, boulangeries etc on Ile de la Cite so this means a walk across the bridge to either the Latin Quarter or Ile St Louis to buy provisions.
The photos and description of the apartment on the Special Apartments website were very accurate and we found the apartment to be quite spacious by Parisian standards and very comfortable. The bathroom could do with an update as the tiling is stained and this would be the only negative feature of the apartment. The apartment is in an old building and has the traditional wooden floorboards which do creak and can be a bit noisy. Having said this, the adjoining apartments and apartment-dwellers were very quiet and we weren't troubled by noise at any time. Our dealings with the Special Apartments staff were absolutely first rate, from initial enquiries with Hugh who provided very straightforward & easy to follow instructions on after-hours key collection through to phone enquiries with Geraldine, John & Regis who were kind enough to allow us to park our luggage at their office for a few hours while we completed our sightseeing & shopping on our last day.
This was our first apartment experience in Paris - we were very satisfied and are happy to recommend Special Apartments.

We spent a great time in Paris. The studio is very good located in the Marais area. The little street has good restaurants and there are many mini markets around. Few steps from two metro stations (Temple and Arts et Métiers). There is no litf and it´s in the 3rd floor. Good bathroom and kitchen. Unfortunately the bed is on the mezzanine.
Free calls to landlines were very useful.

Although Regis was very helpful with the reservation, it took several phone calls to get a hold of him once we arrived. We rented studio #021 and it was very musty and dirty. The shower curtain was full of mold. The first day someone came to fix something in the shower, which took hours, and was when we wanted to sleep off the jet lag. We were also promised a phone to use, but it was out of credits. My calls to Regis about the phone were not returned.
On what was supposed to be a very special trip, we were sadly disappointed.

I was a bit nervous going to this apartment as the previous reviews were mixed, but my experience was nothing but pleasant. I had stayed in a hotel down the road on a previous trip to Paris with my wife (Hotel Opera Victoires) and it was lovely, but this time around we have a kid, and he goes to bed at 7pm, so hotel rooms don't really work that well for us anymore as going to bed at 7 in the evening while on holidays is not ideal. I cannot stress how great the location of the apartment is - the Rue Montorgueil is litereally 50 yards away and this is a lovely Parisian street with lots of food shopsa nd a few cafes, so it's so easy to stock up on your essentials or eat out if you prefer. We did the typical French way of shopping on the day of our arrival - bakery, butcher, green grocer, cheesemonger, patisserie for some treats and the wine shop. The apartment itself was well kitted out - there was 6 of everything ( I had read there was only three, so maybe they bought some more) and it's all lovely Villeroy and Boch stuff and was otherwise well equipped with a good fridge, microwave and gas hob, kettle, toaster all easy to use. The apartment was very clean, the bed comfortable. The shower worked well and was also clean (maybe a few small bits of mould about, but not anything that would make you think it had not been cleaned - it was spotless and I had no problem to use it, nor did my wife and neither of us like unclean showers. There was a few small patches of flaking paint (one in the kitchen and one in the shower room), but they were very small and didn't make the place look bad. I actually think they added to the feel of the place - this is an aprtment in a very old building so there will be some things like this that give some character. Most importantly the whole place was really warm and very easy to heat, which was very important to us as it was very cold outside when we were there. There is also a lift, although we could not fit our buggy in it (we didn't bring a small stroller, if we did it would have fitted fine, but instead we opted to bring our big buggy with the thick chunky wheels to make the cobbled Paris streets a little easier on our son and indeed on us psuhing it around). It was the right thing to do. We had to carry the buggy up and down the stairs (two floors), which really was not a big deal at all and didn't bother us at all. In summary, this place was perfect for us as a family to stay. The ability for Specail Apartmnents to have a travel cot there was very convenient. We were abel to put our son down and then retire to the living room in the evening. The metro does pass underneath the apartment and it didn't distrub him at all, and he's a very light sleeper. It's like a gentle roll of thunder every few minutes, I know that must sound awful, but trust me it isn't - you don't even notice it most of the time, even when it starts early in the morning. I would totally recommedn this for a couple to stay or even a one child family - (not sure about more than that though).

We had a fantastic time in Paris thanks to the staff at Special Apartments.

They were friendly, helpful and the room (in Montorgueil) was amazing.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them again

We stayed on ile St Louis in a one bedroom apartment in October ( managed by specialapartments.com). The apartment was on the fourth floor with no lift but it was clean and spacious. From the beginning we felt at home in Paris. The location and set up had atmosphere. We became residents not tourists. The location is perfect, we walked to Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Shops and enjoyed the ile de la cite in the early morning before the bus loads arrived. Very close to metro line 7 and Notre Dame RER it was easy to visit anywhere in Paris.
The management could not have been better. We were able to check in early ( arrived in CDG at 6am) and they were most concerned about our being disturbed by workmen. We were given the option of another apartment or a200 euro refund for the inconvenience of scaffolding , dust and noise. We will return.

I stayed at this apartment in June 2009. I just had to write this review because there were a number of problems with the arrangement.

1. Despite me having rung the week before to arrange to be collected from the airport, they forgot to order the shuttle. I was left waiting at the airport and had to catch a taxi at my own expense.
2. The lift didn’t work from the ground floor and I had to lug my luggage up the stairs (the apartment is located on the second floor and the staircase is narrow and dark – I don’t think this apartment is suitable for the elderly/ handicapped, or anyone who can’t carry their own luggage up 2 flights of stairs).
3. There were nearly dead flowers in the kitchen on the windowsill and bedroom and the kitchen smelled of fish. The apartment was quite clean (although the shower showed a lot of mould which should have been clean when I arrived) but it is definitely showing signs of wear and tear and badly needs a paint.
4. There were various minor things which needed to be fixed - the oven didn’t work, there was a loose handle on a kitchen cupboard, stuffing falling out of a chair, several cracked glasses, there weren’t enough glasses, mugs, plates to have a dinner party – 3 of everything only – at this price, these things should be checked and fixed after every visit. I reported them and after 4 days everything including the oven was finally fixed.
5. the Metro line runs right underneath the apartment – you can feel and hear the rumbling of every train.
6. the kitchen chairs and floors are very worn. This is taking “shabby” chic to the extreme! Not what I would describe as a recently refurbished, Pristine Decorated apartment.
7. there is very little storage – the hall cupboard is locked and apparently for the use of the owner, not the guest.
8. The location was very noisy – it faces into a central courtyard with every other apartment in the large block opening onto it. You could hear babies crying, people arguing and other unmentionables. It was hot, the apartment is not airconditioned and windows needed to remain open at night. Take earplugs!

Is there any upside?

√ The staff are lovely (despite having forgotten to book the shuttle)
√ International and local phone calls and wireless internet are included
√ The location is great
