I booked a day trip to Paris for my boyfriend as a surprise... when booking I had a look around to see what there was to do in Paris and came across Left Bank Scooters. I contacted them to see if i could hire one of their Vespas for the day only (usually Left Bank Scooters service operates on a 24hr period), and pick it up from Gare Du Nord as we were travelling by Eurostar. This was no problem, after emailing Left Bank Scooters I received a speedy and helpful response from Stephanie who advised that Adam would be in contact to organise our meeting.
(Just to let you know, neither I nor my boyfriend are experienced scooter riders, so this was somethign new for both of us).
We arrived in Paris at around 11am and Adam was outside waiting for us with the lovely Vespa!!!! We were both so excited, the scooter couldnt have been better!! Adam spent around 15/20 minutes showing us over the bike and giving us ideas and advice as to where we could go around Paris as we were only there for such a short time (we were returning the bike and heading home at 18:30), Insurance is also organised through Left Bank Scooters so no need to worry about that as is all the paper work.
So we had our GPS and a marked up map from Adam, we set off.. a bit wobbly at first but we soon got used to the scooter and the crazy French drivers. As Adam suggested we head up to Sacre Coeur as we could drive up all the cobbled streets because we were on a scooter while everyone walked up... We decided to park at the bottom and walk up, we found somewhere to park the scooter easily and chained it up with the locks provided to us. We also locked the helmets away in the bike so we didnt have to carry these around (however, the helmets are not covered on the insurance so you may want to carry them around with you?).
After returning from lunch at the top of Monmarte we returned to our bike (after eventually finding it, thinking it had been stolen as we found an identical parking spot just further up the street but it was minus our scooter) so after the relief of realising we hadnt had the bike stolen and it was just our bad map reading we headed off to find the infamous Arc de Triomphe...
The french roads... cobbled in parts were fun to drive along, made all the better on the back of a Vespa, road signs clear enough to navigate around town, drivers crazy but considerate and it also seems that bikes and scooters have the right of way in most places which made our travels all the more easier...
So we arrived at chans de lise... slightly scared as we were on a scooter heading for this huge round about but we entered onto the Arc de Triomphe and got straight into the middle of the roundabout... went round twice... then had to work our way out... which was actually easier than it looks... being on a scooter and maybe looking slightly pertrified meant everyone kind of got out of our way... if you hire a Vespa you MUST go round this roundabout... was definitely a highlight to our travels that day.
Once we exited we headed off to find the Eiffel Tower... again... really easy driving, we found our way to the River Seine and stuck to that as we couldnt get lost... plus the sights are beautiful...
We found Eiffel Tower and parked up again... again easy parking as there are scooter parkings everywhere... Ice-cream, sightseeing, spot of sunbathing on the parks around the Eiffel Tower... couldnt have been a nicer way to end our short but very enjoyable day!!!!
We returned our scooter to Adam at around 6:30 having had a wonderful day and not really wanting to hand the scooter back, but it was nice to have the chance to sit and have a nice cold beer before we boarded our train back to UK.
I would definitely recommend using Left Bank Scooters, the whole process from booking the scooter, meeting Adam to pick it up, the advice given for sights to see and driving around Paris was superb... if ever i am back in Paris I will be hiring a Vespa as it really did make our day fun to say the least... If we had been on foot... our day may have been slightly less chaotic, but also a lot less funny... it really did make our day... we didnt have to bother with the Metro or walking around... we pulled up at every opportunity to take photos, scooters really can go anywhere in Paris... we even saw one guy pull up on the pavement to a cash point and draw money while still on his scooter!!!
DEFINITLEY an experience you need !!!!!
