Had some wine, jamon iberico, chorizo and manchego cheese for an early evening appetizer. Everything was amazing! We stayed at a hotel around the corner and walked by several times. As mentioned earlier, the place is tiny. Some seats at the bar and 2 tables. The 2 Spanish guys that run the place were some of the nicest, friendliest people I met in Paris.

We stumbled onto El Sol while looking for another restaurant. What a great find. If you know anything about the legendary Pata Negra ham from Spain, also known as the Iberico Bellota - the Spanish black footed pig that graze on acorns, and the hams are cured naturally in mountain air for 3 years. El Sol had 10 of these ham legs, hoof and all, hanging on the wall. Forget your Parma and your proscuitto, this is the best ham in the world, and to stumble onto it in Paris of all places was a real treat.

El Sol is a small place with only 10 seats. The service is very personable and knowledgeable. You must get a plate of sliced Iberico Bellota and a glass of one of their fine Riojas. Some mancheco cheese goes well together. The squid cooked in its ink was good too, as well as the neck meat of Pata Negra. But the ham is the real highlight - with the rich marbling infused with acorn flavor, it just melts in your mouth. We were in Paris 7 days and ate at some great restaurants, but made time to go to El Sol 3 times during our stay.

My girlfriend and I visited this classic "hole in the wall" and enjoyed Tapas of ham and monchego cheese, endive salad with red peppers, and anchovies with eggplant. Desert was a delicious almond nougat. The staff spoke english french and spanish. With a bottle of great spanish wine the total was 80 US dollars. The place was small and crowded. Fun atmosphere and the best Tapas I've ever had.
