We are lucky enough to have seen most of the major sites in Paris. So, on this trip we avoided the long lines by visiting some of the less spectacular ones. We really enjoyed this one. You enter about 100 meters in front of Notre Dame. There is a great combination of actual ancient foundations of the city and spectacular computer graphics. For instance, there is a 3D interactive display that allows you to explore Notre Dame a four different stages during its construction. You can zoom out to see how it fit into its surroundings, and zoom in to see the actual work in progress. You can also move around the different parts of the works to see details of the construction. A very pleasant and instructive couple of hours. Best visited after you have already seen the cathedral and tours, which we had done on previous trips.

We stubbled upon the Archeological Crypt during a visit to Notre-Dame. It was certainly worth the admission. Our daughter really enjoyed the interactive video screens showing the building of Notre-Dame. Although Notre Dame was extremely busy, the crypt was quiet and very interesting. Highly recommended!

A great way to spend an hour or so looking at what Paris looked like. Interactive 3D kept the teenager engaged while I looked at the Roman artifacts and old city maps.

I like this sort of thing. I got the audio guide for 3€, but the signs are in French and English if you're going to cheap out (admission is only 5€). They do a good job of explaining and showing you what is there. The 3D computer maps at different time periods was cool and fun. This is what you make of it also. You could come in and look and leave, or you could spend time and read and listen to the things the museum has set up. I thought it was well done. I would have liked to see more. There are three layers excavated here, but it's a small site. The entrance is just the other side of the square from the entrance to Notre Dame.

Easy to find as it is directly in front of Notre Dame. Admission was free on the day we went because of a special celebration, but it is on the Museum Pass and kids are always free. Very interesting view of the subterranean remains of early Paris with explanations of the foundations so you know what you're looking at. Popular interactive video at the back if the exhibit room which demonstrates the building of Notre Dame. Should take about 30 minutes to an hour to tour. No bathrooms available, FYI.
