“Siper Italian Food”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

A cozy, warm neighborhood restuarant near rue du Cler. We all enjoyed the daily specials. Amazing pasta putanesca, roasted rabbit with atichokes, the veal piccata was the best my wife ever had including in Italy. Nice selection of desserts. Although we idin't try it the pizza looked very good too.

“a lovely romantic Italian restaurant”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

We have visited this restaurant many times over the last few years when we were living in the neighbourhood. The food is traditional and uncomplicated and consistently delicious. We find that the specials (written on the chalk board daily) are usually very good because they are based on what is seasonal. On a recent visit to Paris, we returned to La Taverna and were delighted to find that the restaurant has been totally redecorated and the result is lovely. A very Parisian blend of romantic and contemporary. The charming hostess manages most of the service herself so it can be slightly tricky when the restaurant is crowded. However, we have rarely found this to be a problem. La Taverna is a perfect choice for a family meal or an intimate dinner. Pizza is a new addition to the menu. There is a good selection of Italian wines.

“Great find”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

After visiting the Eiffel tower we were looking for somewhere to eat in the area. I pulled up my Tripadvisor app and found La Taverna was in the area. I read the reviews and we decided to try it. Upon arriving we were greeted by the hostess. There were several tables full all at various stages of the meals. We were given menus that only listed pizzas and drinks but were also told about the blackboard specials. I liked the blackboard because that gave me the impression that the chef created new items each day based on what was best at the market. Also, there were enough options for us to choose from that we didn't feel limited. We started with the Caprese salad which had the unique twist of including watermelon. My husband ordered the sea bass which he said was excellent. I had the risotto with parma ham and my daughter had shrimp with lemon and pasta. This was by far my favorite dish. We were too full for dessert.

My only note would be that once the hostess brought our drink order, it became obvious that they was the waitress as well...the ONLY waitress. As the evening progressed the restaurant filled up and she definitely had her hands full but handled it very well. Needless to say, our meal was a bit leisurely.

Check out the chalk board before you sit but I would recommend trying La Taverna.

“Absolutely Horrible Experience”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Our experience was so bad at this restaurant that we did not make it past the drinks stage. When we arrived, we were seated and everything was pleasant. The hostess made us feel welcome and then reviewed the brief selections available on the chalk board. All okay but we were looking for more options as described by other visitors. When the hostess/waitress came back to take our orders, she explained that the chalk board were the only options. Since we were expecting more, we asked her to review the chalk board options again so we could make our selections and she told us "okay but pay attention this time". Although taken aback, we all made our orders and found out that we could order some items off the board - which she had not told us initially. So we started asking her questions about what else was available and she very rudely told us a couple of pasta items and it was clear she was losing patience with our inquiries - even though the restaurant was <25% full. She also told us at this point that they had been closed for a few weeks and had just reopened a week ago with a limited menu (why did she not tell us this at beginning???) So we ordered - some ordering the pre fix menu (35 euro) and others only ordering main meals priced individually (beef dish 26 euros). After taking orders and bring us wine and other drinks, she returned and told us that whoever ordered beef would have to pay additional 6 euros (even though chalk board clearly stated the price). Obviously we did not like this and then she she got really rude asking us why we were complaining. At this point we cancelled the order, paid for our drinks, and left. (And had an excellent meal at another restaurant nearby.) We made reservations for this restaurant a more than 2 months before our visit and I emailed the restaurant a week before visit (but received no reply) so they could have told us about the limited menu, etc... But the real issue was the unbelievable rudeness of this hostess/waitress. MY STRONG RECOMMENDATION IS TO NEVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT. There are many fantastic restaurants in Paris - this one should close.

I rated food as average based on bruschetta brought to our table. Nothing special.

“Back for seconds.... wait thirds.”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

The first time we visited Paris we ate here. Then a few nights later, we went back again since it was so good. Three years later we were back in Paris and our first night we rushed over for our dinner. We have talked about how much we loved this place for some time, and it certainly lived up to our expectations.
