We signed up for a private "Baguette to Bistro" tour with Alisa. It was our daughter and son-in-law's first trip to Paris and we wanted an introduction to French food. It was a wildly successful day with stops at a gourmet shop where we sampled the best foie gras and other delicacies; a bakery where we purchased a baguette; at the cheese shop we learned about different cheeses. Alisa purchased some pates and cheese and we had a picnic on the sidewalk while she showed us how cheese is cut a la francaise. Next stop was the butcher shop and fishmonger, a chocolate shop and a wine shop where we tasted Armagnac and port. Finally, a pastry shop for a Paris Brest dessert. At the end we couldn't eat another bite. The tour met our full expectations and Alisa did a fantastic job bringing French food and drink to life. Highly recommended.

I had been to the Louvre before with friends and remembered rushing through it, making sure to see a handful of "must see" works. This time I was returning with my daughter, an art teacher, and I wanted our Louvre experience to be the best it could be for the time we could allow. After reading many reviews online, I selected the Louvre Crash Course with Context Paris Tours, and I am convinced it was the best way to have a meaningful Louvre experience. Our scholar-guide, Laure-Caroline was so knowledgeable and interesting. Three hours was just the right amount of time to explore this magnificent museum chronologically. She told so many interesting stories about the artists, the movements, and the works. I know there are so many places to visit in Paris, but if you really want to say you visited the Louvre, give three hours of your time to this tour.

We elected to do a private tour with Context Tours - a full day exploring the chateau, gardens and the other important buildings on the estate. Our docent was the lovely Sandra and she knew her subject well. Although it was expensive it was worth it as we discovered a lot more then we would have got by ourselves. Sandra was engaging, knowedgeable and it was great to have someone negotiate the estate without incident ( there are many unwritten "no-nos" in the garden) and give you a bit of insiders history. My only hesitancy with giving Context a 5 star was the administration and back office service before out tour. For the price we were expecting everything to be organised and seemlessly orchestrated. Instead we wasted 3/4 of our paid time with our docent standing in line to get an extra ticket for a third member of our group to Versailles when they had plenty of notice to do so. Also as there was a train strike on we were concerned whether there was going to be any problems so we sent an email before our tour to find out if everything was okay. Basically we got a fairly abrupt email back to say they are keeping watch on everything and they will let us know if we need to worry. I.e dont bother us with your unnecessary questions!!!

Dear Amanda H.,

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your Versailles excursion. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your time with our docent Sandra and that she provided an insightful tour.

However, we are sorry to read there were some administrative issues. It appears that there might have been an information gap on our end regarding the addition of the third participant. We will certainly take this, in addition to the issue regarding communication on the strike, up with our team to ensure this sort of problem does not reproduce.

We hope we will be able to host you on walks again in the future and that they run perfectly the next time.

A friend who has never led us astray recommended Context tours and we were happy she did. We did the Baguettes to Bistro's tour led by Preston, who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The choice of shops where we stopped was great, and it was clear that Preston was liked and appreciated by the owners/staff of each one. It's worth noting that Context pays for the food tour members sample rather then depend on freebies. That assures the best samples and keeps everything above board. This system respects the shop owners and tour members.
We had six people in our group, the maximum Context will accept, so I was impressed to see they provided a second guide for just two additional people. It would have been no problem to have added two more to our six and saved the cost of a second guide, but Context has its standards and will not easily violate them. It is that level of commitment to quality and personalized attention that you pay for, even pay a little extra for, and to us it was well worth it. We did not have time for other interesting looking tours that Context offers in Paris. Oh we'll next time!! Meanwhile, my wife and I will recommend Context to anyone lucky enough to visit the cities where they offer tours.

Merci beaucoup Preston for a fabulous "Paris Market Walk" on Mother's Day in France. This tour is a sensual delight and a great way to spend a Sunday morning in Paris with my grown daughters. I can still see the bright colors, smell the fruit, vegetables, and flowers, as well as taste the cheese, breads, and charcuterie. Tres Bon!
