Description: Le Bar Le Passage retaurant in Paris just by the Madeleine is sited in a charming covered passage on the first floor, annexed to the celebrated Senderens restaurant. This is Alain Senderens beautiful version of a tapas type bar, with stunning flavours served on tiny plates and accompanied by superb wines. The space is small, too, with golden seating, embroidered walls, and an air of high modern design succeeding admirably. The menu features both tapas, accompanied by Spanish wines, and sushi and sashimi Senderens style to be had with sake. This is the spot for quick bites in a very stylish setting.

I will start by saying the value of the food quality versus value was very good. We had a 4 course meal for 41 euros'. The food was very good. The downside is the chef determines the menu at his whim after your server ask if there is anything you are allergic to or will not eat. It's a risk so keep that in mind. In my opinion the most important lesson we learned was "never" sit anywhere but in the bar itself. Our reservations were botched) even though we made them over e-mail with confirmations). They have a 5 star Michelin restaurant downstairs where they had book us rather than the Bar. This lead to them seating us in a room which reminded me a Conference Room at a Holiday Inn or cafeteria, with no one but our party in it a 8 pm. By 10:30 when we left, 2 other couples had joined the room. The ambience was dreadful. The server's (4 during the course of the evening) were efficient but less than warm and cheerful. Could I recommend? Only if you dine in the Bar itself, otherwise you will clearly be disappointed.

Very inventive and nicely presented dishes. Waiters were all uniformly professional and seemed to enjoy working at this place. Not easy to find another place, where one eats such excellent french food for 41 euros per person in Paris.

The Bar Le Passage is not easy fo find. However once located you are in for a real treat. There is no set menu rather the waiter asks what you don't like! It is a surprise menu. We had foie gras followed by duck and a delightful apple dessert. The courses are dependent on what is available from the two star Michelin restaurant below at street level.

It is extremely popular, so advance booking essential. The lack of a menu is unusual but the anticipation of the food arriving is part of the experience. If you want to impress or just enjoy great food with a surprise the Bar Le Passage is a gem.

We had eaten here ayear ago and had a marvelous meal, served by friendly and attentive staff. This time, though we had made a reservation, the Maitr'd denied its existence but offered to seat us anyway. We could clearly see our name on the list and when we pointed that out - he said: "Ah! I misunderstood you." We were shown a table and when two of us started to take off our jackets, he said: "You can put them anywhere" . He showed us the menu and explained : That it was all a surprise ( which was fine) but what can't you eat? . We told him our preferences and he dissapeared 5 minutes later he reappeared and asked if we wanted a drink? We did and we each ordered a glass of wine. He rolled his eyes at our choices. 10 - 12 minutes later the Amuse Bouce was delivered. " I don't know what it is - that's part of the surprise." Each course was delivered after very long breaks ( between the fish and the meat was 20 minutes) and forks were taken away and never returned. We know its supposed to be a more casual experience but this was ridiculous. There was no pride in the food or its presentation. Shame on them!

This is one of the best address in Paris if you can get a table, food was amazing, service very good and even price of wine reasonable ... their surprise menu was one of the best I had in years.
