Description: This bistro is a concept-restaurant that honors French cooking and hospitality with an all-inclusive 3 courses, house aperitif, half bottle of wine each and coffee for 44 per person. Bistro La Muette restaurant in the very smartest part of Paris' chic 16th arrondissement calls itself a bistro but is a smart little restaurant. The front dining room is a contemporary space with a wall of water and lighting effect at one end of the room, black Murano chandelier, elegant upholstery and tapestries, while the rear is more traditional with upholstered seating in tones of red. The sunny terrace is delightful too. Like the decor, the menu offers the best of traditional and more modern French cuisine, with dishes like avocado with crab, cappuccino with mildly hot pepper of espelette, roast rack of lamb with rosemary jus and gratin potatoes and crispy dark chocolate cake with mocha sauce.

“stylish, comfortable, Welcoming with good frod and wine”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Le Grand Bistro at La Muette in the 16th Parisian arrondissement is a Bistro with upscale attitude and a cut above the normal standard Parisian Bistro. It is easy to reach and is located just across from the line 9 Metro La Muette and there is a Vinci Underground Parking at Rue Passy just 2 minutes away.

There are three areas to the Bistro, The Bar area which also serves as a reception area. The main dining room which is on the right and than area at the back which I did not investigate. Make sure to reserve in advance for evening dinner as it is always busy and I recommend that you do not choose a table in the Bar area as it get crowded and can be chilly in the winter as it is just next to the main door. We ate in the main dining room which was very comfortable and nicely decorated with soft furnishings. lighting Mirrors and a wall with a waterfall feature with glass effect.

The staff are friendly and are happy to speak both French and English. The restaurant seems to be popular with local residents and an international set of business visitors.

You can select at will from the broad choice of dishes on the menu or you can choose the set three course menu by selecting from the 4-5 starters main courses and deserts market with a * for 39 Euro not including drinks. There is also a good selection of wines and aperitifs. We were five people for dinner and among the starters the smoked salmon was the most popular. For the main course I recommend the French Burger if you like substantial gourmet burgers, or the sea bass or salmon is you like something lighter. The Duck and Steak were also excellent choices according to my guests.

Deserts are beautifully presented and the portions are large so if you are feeling full give it a miss. The Creme Brulee is flambe and is lit at the table for a spectacular effect. the Milelfeuille is very good and the Pineapple fruit dish and fine apple tart definitely are worth a try.

Overall it is good value at about 50 Euro per head with drinks. It is stylish, comfortable, welcoming, and serves very good food. It is a great place for a special dinner out with friends family or business colleagues. Will definitely visit again.

“It is not what it use to be!”
Reviewed January 5, 2013 via mobile

My wife, friends and our visitors to Paris always frequent this restaurant as it had reasonable service sometime good and sometime not so good however the set Menu was perfect and the ambience very French and therefore we have taken more that 20 couples to the restaurant when they visit us in Paris. I am afraid that the last two time have not been what I would call satisfying. they have changed the set Menu from €42 per head for a three course meal with a bottle of reasonable French wine to a menu that does not offer enough choice and has hidden extra cost everywhere, such as €42 menu cost on average € 66 not what we expected and the value per head is no longer there a real pity as the old menu and set up would have continued to gain our ever growing custom. We will not be going back - so sorry

“Le Grand Bistro”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

This restaurant is actually Le Grand Bistro, La Muette. It is part of the family chain started by Willy Dorr, who was at this particular venue the night we visited. It is really nicely appointed and it is easy to feel underdressed if you haven't made a bit of an effort. It is a night out after all. We were meeting new friends for dinner and arrived early, just after 7:15pm, for our 8:00pm booking hoping there might be a bar where we could all sit and have a chat and drink. There isn't really a bar big enough for that but we were greeted graciously and taken to our table straight away, even though we were 45mins early and the only ones there. The staff were very accommodating.
Our French is at beginner level and our server had a similar level of English but was very patient with us and professionally friendly.
Again, like many places, they have a fixed price menu (the Signature) as well as A La Carte. We opted for the fixed price which is such good value at Euro42 per head. Excellent choices. Our starters ranged from my gorgeous juicy oysters, still with seawater on them, to escargot, smoked salmon and Foie Gras. I forgot how boney Sole is when I ordered the grilled choice for my main and spent a bit of time picking away. I'll remember next time. One of our guests made the smarter choice of Sea Bass which was delicious.
The Signature menu includes a bottle of wine for two. They were out of the selected Sauvignon Blanc on the list but offered an even better Entre Deux Mers. It was so nice that we ran up to 4 bottles. These were new friends and there was plenty of chat! We were never hurried out or left unattended.
I suppose the only criticism I might have is that two of us were eating fish and were given fish knives, correctly. We had however ordered the Wok of Legumes, a small side dish of stir fried veggies. These were impossible to cut with a fish knife and two of us were struggling along and improvising. More fool me for not just asking for another knife! We were having too much fun chatting so couldn't be bothered. Not really a criticism though.
I can happily recommend the service, food and atmosphere here. Including the strangest mix of music (all good to my ears) for a restaurant of this calibre. It wasn't background chill/jazz/fusion or sedate generic elevator music. It was a bit more upbeat and all recognisable from worldwide chart hits. We will definitely be back, or maybe try one of their other locations.

“Consistantly good”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

We live in Paris and this is our favorite place to spend a Sunday afternoon. You need to book and the food is always scrumptious. Regarding bad service I disagree if you wait you will always be attended to, and while the staff do not neccesarilly smarm and charm.... which I think is Yuk you will be served in an efficent and no nonsense way which is very Parisien. Its extremely good value in Paris for the quality of food... hence it is always packed with the locals.

“Mixed Results”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

We ate here two times in 6 nights and the first time we went we thought it was cheap and good. We had the free champagne and olives, a bottle of wine, foie gras, salad, fish, and Profiteroles. It was all great, the service great and only 80 euros. The foie gras was fantastic.

We went back three nights later and the food was really good but the service was slow and inattentive. So who knows.... We did love the atmosphere it is a beautiful restaurant.
