Access was easy due to the clear instructions provided.
The apartment is stylish, well-equipped and has a lovely feel about it.
Great river and city views, with a gentle cooling breeze coming through the open windows on hot summer days.
The location on ile St. Louis is perfect for people who want to experience the atmosphere of Paris in times gone by. The island is secluded from the more hectic parts of Paris but still within walking distance of many attractions and transport options.
A very enjoyable apartment for a romantic holiday in Paris.
Before running through the pros and cons of this property, let me start by saying that in our opinion this is truly a gem of a flat! If you want a Parisian experience, please consider staying at this property. Here is why.
Location and transport - This property lies right in the centre of Paris. It is on one of the little islands that dot the river Seine. It is on the Île Saint-Louis therefore just next door to Notre Dame. It is served by 2 underground lines just a few meters (or yards if you run on the Imperial system) away. You are just about 5 minutes walk from Châtelet which is served by lines 1, 4, 7,11, 14. Line 4 will connect you directly to the Gare du Nord, which is the Eurostar terminal. Pont Marie is the closest and is served by line 7 and Saint-Paul, line 1, it's also very close. There are also several bus and tram lines.
Shops (stores for the Americans) and cafes - Exit the building and take a left. Cross the bridge (Pont Marie) and walk down the Rue des Nonnains d'Hyrès till you get to Rue Saint - Antoine. There you will have a couple of supermarkets (we went to G20) and had coffee in a local cafe (L'Éléphant du Nil) which attracts a local crowd of Parisians (always a good sign). Great coffee and very friendly staff! They are gay-friendly too by the way.
The flat! - Now... where to start... The owner is really friendly, speaks impeccable English (or writes it as we did not have a chance to meet face to face) and has brought being organised to a different level! She has thought of absolutely every and any thing you could possibly need or want. Her flat comes fully furnished in a lovely French style. It is tasteful and comfortable at the same time. It is a split level studio flat. The entrance gives on the living area which also hosts the kitchen. The bathroom is a little enclave there. I suspect some of our friends from the other side of the Pond as well as in Britain, might find this solution odd. However, we thought it was original and added to the charm of the place rather than subtracting from it. It is different, by after all that is why we travel. We do not need to see our familiar environments replicated ad nauseam. The kitchen is small but fully equipped. And when I say equipped, I mean equipped! It's all there and more! This also goes for the living area. From books to guides to games, TV internet and so on everything but everything is there seamlessly.
On the other level, you have the bedroom. You go up a ladder/stairs and voila, your sleeping quarters. The bed is large and comfortable and again you have all kinds of little things to make it look and feel like it is truly yours. Like you have always lived there (in style).
The views are also pretty stunning as your windows overlook the Seine.
All in all, this flat is efficient, welcoming, functional, convenient but above stylish all romantic.
Mobility - If you have a mobility problem you might find this property a bit difficult to access. Although there is a lift (elevator for the Americans), this stops at the 4th floor. Then there is then another flight of stairs to climb. Once inside the flat, you need a ladder to go up to the second floor.
Facilities - the toilet flush, probably due to the age of the building, is a bit loud so you need to be mindful.
To conclude, this is really a great place to be and we hope to be here again when we come back to Paris.
