“A real find”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

This is an EXCELLENT restaurant with a friendly atmosphere and great food.
Book with the La Fourchette website and you can eat the 40 euro 3 course menu for 28 euros. (the lunchtime menu is 22 euros for everyone) .The waiters were friendly and the food was cooked just as we wanted it,4 of us went there on a Saturday night and there was going to be a live piano recital later on. Before we left, we were offered a digestif on the house and 2 red roses for the ladies (leftover form Valentine's day 2 days before but a nice gesture nevertheless).

“Great Food, Nice Atmosphere”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Another great Parisian restaurant. It wasn’t cheap – a starter and main for me, all 3 courses for my husband and a bottle of white wine cost just over 100 euros, but this is Paris – cheap dining is virtually impossible now unless you eat at McDonalds. I wouldn’t pay that for a meal in the UK, but it’s pretty standard in Paris, and it was tasty, well presented food with excellent service.

I always feel bad about not being able to speak the language, but the waiting staff at Au Port Salut really put you at your ease. They are friendly, welcoming and will try and teach you a few words of French. Plus, ladies get a red rose at the end of the meal.

I had a cold meats starter which was delicious and my husband had the duck salad which he also enjoyed. However it was the main courses here that excelled. My pork cheek was so tender and delicious, accompanied by smooth, tasty mustard mash. My husbands beef fillet looked and tasted fabulous. The portion sizes are just right here – you don’t feel sick and overly stuffed, but you feel very full and content. The presentation and quality are right up there with the taste.

I would say tables are very slightly too close together in Au Port Salut, but I’ve been to places in Paris where it was much worse. Generally the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and intimate. Highly recommended.

“A bad experience”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

It's pretty rare my wife and I characterize a restaurant as bad. As a rule, we know what's coming, and adjust our expectations accordingly.
But for a restaurant with such excellent recommendations we had really expected more.
Firstly, we really had difficulty finding the restaurant, because the location on the map on TripAdvisor was wrong. But that's hardly the restaurant's fault.

But when we arrived, it was worse. And we can say it right away - the service is among the worst we have ever experienced. After being assigned table, we waited for more than half an hour before we got a menu and something to drink. There was a heat wave in the city at the time, and we were pretty thirsty after having looked for this restaurant for an hour.

And the wait was not over, it was nearly another hour before we got our apetizer. Moreover, when the main course arrived, it was not what we ordered. When we made the waiter aware of this, he was not apologetic at all and did not offer to swap it. Given the long wait, we decided to eat what we got, hoping for a nice experience. But we were dissapointed. The food was ok. but not at all something special.

The waiter was very little attentive, and we had great difficulty getting in touch with him to order more drinks and a dessert. We just sat there with our empty glasses and dirty dishes - for a looong time. Other people around us seemed to be treated well and without problems, and that makes you feel like an idiot and not welcome.

Finally, we could bear no more and decided to eat the dessert somewhere else.

But the calamities were not over. They didn't accept any of the major credit cards - not Visa, Amex or Mastercard - only the french debet card "Carte Bleue". So I ended up walking a distance to find an ATM before we could pay. There was no apologies, no discount, no nothing.

Maybe the waiter had a bad day, or we simply were out of luck. But maybe someone eventually realized that this had not gone so well. As we were about to leave, the manager showed up and asked if there was anything he could do for us. It was a bit strange, because we had not complained, either to the waiter or him. It was a little too late, though. The night was already damaged.

“A fantastic find”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

We were in Paris in September for almost a week and stayed near the Pantheon; the hotel recommended this restaurant for an authentic French meal, and it did not disappoint! We loved it from start to finish......great service, delicious food and a cozy interior. I had the duck and it was heavenly; my husband had fish that was equally as yummy. The new owner spent some time talking to us, and, at the end of the meal, I was handed a rose as we walked out.......a very nice touch when dining in Paris.....the city of love! I think the owner's son is the chef, and we met him later in the evening......very friendly young man. We wish them great success and hope to return for another wonderful meal when we return to Paris.

“Amazing!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

After having lived in France, coming back to find a traditional French restaurant with a combination of wonderful food, friendly service and no airs and graces has proved difficult, to say the least. However - I'm pleased to say that it still exists! Here you have a cosy, traditional restaurant, staffed by friendly, attentive and definitely not overbearing people, that actually appear to enjoy what they do. The food is pretty impressive, in terms of taste and presentation and in just the right amounts. Whatever you order will be delicious and there is a wide variety of wine to complement your choices. Will definitely be back!
