Very close to the hotel I was staying at. Very relaxed, fun, social atmosphere. The large butcher block table (communal seating) was a great way to meet new people.

Seriously, get there early, unless you enjoy queuing up in lines. Actually, even that wasn't so bad
(we made the mistake the second night...) as we were able to order a couple glasses of wine and some snacks while we waited for a table to open up.

Menu changes nightly, so even going back there was no issues finding something new to try. Food is well prepared, ingredients chosen to pair nicely, and it had a great home made feel to it (except the presentation was much better, and I definitely don't cook like this all the time myself :P).

Warm, comfy atmosphere, great service and staff. Will absolutely go back.

We were told about this place by our hotel last year in Montparnasse and tried it. It was great so we went back this year when staying in Montparnasse again. The experience was just as great. You need to go early because there will be a line of people inside waiting for tables. The menu changes daily and the chef first cooks all the dishes for the employees so they can tell you about anything. All the items are listed on boards on the wall. You may get to sit with other groups of people at one of the long tables which can be fun if the other parties are talkative! The food is fresh and delicious and local. You will earn points with the waitstaff if you order something traditionally french or one of their specials. We would go back again!

This restaurant was near the apartment where we were staying, so we decided to give it a shot. We do not have much experience with Basque cuisine, so we were a bit curious. We went early as advised and were seated right away. We enjoyed our meal, although it was not one of the restaurants to which we chose to return for a second time. We tried the pigs' ears, which were interesting although the texture was a bit too cartilaginous for our tastes. Our waiter was quite nice and amusing. He had to explain some Basque dishes that we had never heard of before. If I ever find myself in that neighborhood on a future trip to Paris, I would go back there. It just did not merit a second visit on that particular trip. (Lovers of Basque cuisine should check out Pottoka, a restaurant on the Rue St. Dominque that offers a lighter, more innovative, contemporary approach.)

My daughter and I love steak frites and we selected this place based on Paris by Mouth. The food was fine, but the ambience and service were horrible. There are so many wonderful cafes/bistros in Paris, this was not one of them. There is no outdoor seating. Indoors was super stuffy. It was hot in Paris, and even hotter in this restaurant. Didn't even appear that the windows could open.

The waiter was tremendously rude to us. We had come for steak frites and he was openly disgusted by our order and tried to talk us into something else. We stuck with our order. The steak, frites and mashed potatoes were quite good -- not outstanding, but good. There are much better options...find one of them

Since the reviews were pretty good, we decided to give this place a try. We speak French fluently. From the get go, it was a disaster. The place was packed (!). The wait was long. The staff was rushed and stressed. The owner was rude, with the most dismissive and uncaring attitude we've ever experienced. The food may have been okay, but we'll never know because we had had enough of the nonsense after a while and walked out. After all, one cannot go hungry in Paris. Go to "Le Volant" in the 15th, instead, for a superb Basque experience.
