This bridge was built between 1935 and 1939 of reinforced concrete and replaced an earlier bridge that was built in 1834 which had become too narrow for the increasing volumes of traffic and of an insufficient height above the water. The new bridge is 168 metres long, 33 metres wide and has three arches across the river.

At the time of the new bridge's construction the opportunity was taken to move the whole structure further upstream so that the exit off the bridge on the Right Bank is directly in line with the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel which stands at the entrance to the Louvre.

There are also four stone sculptures, one at each corner, on the bridge.

You can get a good view of this bridge, amongst others, by walking on the Promenade Marceline Loridan-Ivens which runs directly beside the Seine and has a walkway under the bridge.

This bridge constructed of reinforced concrete with stone facing was rebuilt in the 1930’s, in much the same design as the original, to retain the aesthetics of the bridge. On each corner of the bridge are statues representing the Seine, City of Paris, Abundance, and Industry. The bridge crosses the Seine inline with the Louvre and is the major vehicular bridge access for the Louvre, but again with wide pedestrian walkways, there is a great ease of access.

A bridge over the Seine in the center of town. This is the one that I take the bus over; lots of city buses cross this bridge. Beautiful views of the Louvre.

If you walk or take a cruise around the Seine you will see and pass over/under many bridges. We were walking around the museums of the Louvre and Orsay and used this bridge. It has a stunning view of the museums. You will want to stop here and take pics.

Pont du Carrousel is the bridge to walk across if you are going to the Louvre! The views as your cross as spectacular. The bridge itself has been rebuild many times over the years so it is nice and wide and perfect for cars and pedestrians.
