“Poor Service, Too hyped up”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

After eating in this place I was a little confused about what the hype was all about. Yes its 35 euros for a 6 course lunch but then they were really tiny courses and nothing really special. Also service was appalling. I know that France is not exactly known for its friendly waiters but you would expect servers to be at least cordial in a Michelin starred restaurant. You kind of feel like they're doing you a huge favor serving you.

Since it was an open kitchen my boyfriend who was a photographer asked if he could take their picture while they cook away to which the manager flat out said no. It was completely the opposite from our experience with Robuchon later that night where the chefs took the time to accommodate him and even do funny poses.

If you want good value Michelin star food I would suggest Ze Kitchen Galerie or Joel Robuchon Etoile (40 euro lunch menu) - ten times better than this La Bigarrade outfit. Bistrot des Gastronomes is also a good bib gourmand.

“Rude Manager”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

I was really excited to try out this place as I read it was supposedly the best value Michelin restaurant in Paris. Basically its a two star with 35 euro six course set menu. Nothing that knocks your socks off but good food just the same. Wine is pricey though. The biggest turnoff though was our server who I actually think was the manager. He was basically rude and dismissive. You kinda feel like his wife left him for some hot 20 year old brazilian guy now he hates the world sort of thing. You basically go to these michelin places to have a good time and enjoy a good meal but a rude server just totally ruins it for me.

“Fantastic restaurant - will come again”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We had a fantastic meal. Overall the cost is relatively reasonable for a 2-star Michelin restaurant; 155 euros for an amazing 12 course meal with excellent wine pairing. Waitstaff was also very friendly, although not super informative on the ingredients in each plate. Very small restaurant, only 8 tables.

Recommendation for foodies: Reserve one of the few seats at the back bar which overlooks the kitchen.

“Beyond spectacular!”
Reviewed September 21, 2012 via mobile

It was wonderful! Went to La Bigarrade after going to l'Astrance. They were very comparable food wise, but La Bigarrade was a far better value. Lunch is only 35 Euros, just an amazing value! Go for the wine pairing. The sommelier is very knowledgeable and provides a wonderful description of each wine. The Pinot Noir is a standout! Only complaint was that it seemed a little rushed, but it still took 2 hours for lunch.

Enjoy!!!

“2 Michelin star without the attitude”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Firstly location denotes something about this restaurant, its not where you would think it should be. Nothing wrong with the 17th arrondissement or the area near Brochant metro! It opens at 8pm for dinner, no earlier, so we took an 8pm reservation. You need to book, and they call you to re-confirm your booking. The restaurant is simply decorated, it seats 20 only. The kitchen is open so you can see everything that is going on, which is great! We opted for the 12 course tasting menu (there is also a 6 course menu) with the matching wines. Wine list is extensive most bottles are above €50.

Each course was different, evoking different flavors, textures, and smells - lobster, cuttle fish, barnacles, pheasant, pigeon, red snapper to name a few. We had 5 deserts in total and 4 appetizers the rest of the courses were main dishes. Each course came with a matching wine, mostly French, which gives you a good insight into French regional wines you have probably never heard of. They served us only one red wine, would have preferred more red than white. Our sommelier spoke english, but our waiter did not, this wasn't an issue for us, I'm fluent, so acted as translator for my husband. The service was just lovely, relaxed, balanced, not in your face and not being ignored either.

We both enjoyed our evening at La Bigarrade, having eaten at The Fat Duck in Bray, The Ledbury in London and L'Enclume in Cartmel, it was so nice to experience a 2 michelin stared restaurant like no other. We paid €367 in total which included the tip...! The cost was even more surprising!!

The only thing I would change is I would have loved to have received the menu with the dishes we had tried that night along with the matching wines.

You much go here, its as simple as that!
