“Not that outstanding, only certain dishes are good”
Reviewed March 6, 2011

I anticipated this restaurant because of the good reviews amongst my friends (who are Chinese), but I felt that it wasn't as outstanding as the reviews indicated.

Some dishes are good: in particular their special Chairman Mao pork belly that you have to pre-order, the sweet and sour chicken, and the stewed pork trotters. Most dishes were so-so (including the other 'special' chicken dish that you have to pre-order) and others were a let-down (e.g. the Yu Xiang Qie Zi, or spicy stir-fried aubergines). Frankly, I have tasted better elsewhere.

Furthermore, the prices are pretty steep for such small portions. I think there is better value-for-money elsewhere.

“Excellent Szechuan resto”
Reviewed January 14, 2011

My friends and i went there 2 Saturdays in a row because the food was so good. The crispy duck pancake (galette croustillante au canard) and is like Peking duck but in pre-cut rectangle and served with hoisin sauce and slices of spring onion. The steam dried Xiang beef with marinated green and red peppers (boeuf seche a la vapeur avec piments verts et rouges marines) is original. The steamed fish with ginger and chives (poisson a la vapeur au gingembre et a la ciboulette) is fresh and tasty. The sauted and smoked pork breast in a pot reminded me of a dish my mother makes. You have to pre-order the Zuo Zongtang Chicken (Poulet Zuo Zongtang), which tastes of out of this world!

The waiters are young and quite attentive. They provided us with recommendations on what dishes we might like and how much to order for our group of 4.

It's best to reserve on weekends because the restaurant starts to fill up at around 12:30pm with families.

“Authentic Hot & Spicy Chinese restaurant”
Reviewed October 8, 2010

Inexpensive authentic Chinese cuisine -- according to my Chinese friends who enjoy its food as much as I do. Don't pick it for a romantic dinner. But if you care for very affordable good authentic food, this is your place. Service is quick and efficient. Food is very spicy because it's a regional Xiang Chinese restaurant. Not much else to say.

“Xiang cuisine = very spicy, but very very good”
Reviewed August 28, 2010

Not for the faint hearted, it is very spicy, but really tasty
I think this is a pretty authentic chinese regional restaurant, full of Chinese people speaking chinese.
If you are a fan of authentic, then you wont be disappointed.
