We booked the gite for a week's bouldering around Fontainebleau. It's location was ideal - within walking distance of l'Elephant, and less than 20 mins drive from Trois Pignons and the Gorges de Franchard. The accommodation was spacious with a large lounge, kitchen and bathroom downstairs, and a double and twin room upstairs. The double also has a handy wash basin. The beds and sofa were comfy though the provisions in the kitchen were a little basic (only 3 wine glasses provided, and only 1 mug), and the shower over the bath no longer has anything on the wall to attach the shower head to, meaning that you have to hold it yourself whilst showering. However, these are minor quibbles. The enclosed rear courtyard is also a wonderful sun trap for enjoying a cold beer or ice cream.
The owner, Alain, was very friendly and helpful, and left us to ourselves unless we needed anything. After our arrival flight was delayed, meaning that we didn't arrive at the gite till late evening, he was perfectly happy to leave the property open for us and left us helpful notes to find our way about.
Larchant itself is a quaint old village and the basilica of St Mathurin is worth exploring whilst walking from the gite to the bouldnagerie for your freshly baked bread.
