The hotel hosted a wedding during our stay and extremelly loud music played just in front of our room until 3 am. Clients were not warned about this event and the employees did not care. Some clients called the police at 2.30 am.

I would not recommend this hotel since it's management has no respect for clients.

This hotel has a very good location in Fontainebleau, but this town is just so small, so other hotels are also not much away from the center. I don't recommend, because everything is so old and outdated. The lift, air condition, TV, shower equipment.. You fill your coffee or tee by your own at breakfast, no one is doing this service. Internet is not free.

The courtyard around which the hotel is built is certainly pretty - classic French architecture adorned with green foliage – and resulting, critically, in very quiet bedrooms. I also liked the very central location of the hotel (right opposite the Chateau), friendly check-in staff, plus quite grand entrance lobby. There are tea/coffee making facilities plus a fridge in the room.

But .... the rooms are indeed small, the beds and pillows rock-hard, the bathroom tiling grouting going rather brown, the towels a bit threadbare and the rooms unduly warm (my room was on the first floor, with a large communal terrace which meant the windows couldn’t be opened without running the risk of someone walking right in; however this wouldn’t be a problem on floors 2 upwards). The lights in the courtyard were also left on all night, which combined with slightly ill-fitting curtains, leaves the bedroom quite light through the night. The communal corridors feel a bit of a rabbit-warren.

Breakfast was continental plus scrambled eggs and some kind of sausage; it was all very acceptable, but be aware that it only starts at 7 am (at which point it was heaving with guests) and then remained empty until breakfast ended at 10 am – I hope the management will consider starting breakfast from 6 am for their business guests. In addition, the hotel offers no wi-fi – a major omission in my view. And no credit cards accepted for incidental charges under Euros 15.

My room was at the end of an old, dark and smelly corridor. The room itself was about 18 inches wider than the tiniest double bed I have ever seen. The bathroom would be just about acceptable in a cheap youth hostel. Breakfast was poor and service was unfriendly.

When I mentioned all of this to the staff, they admitted that the place could do with a renovation. Until then, I'll be staying away

Much better than I feared from reading some earlier reviews. The room was good - not huge but perfectly adequate. We were at the back looking out over the lovely courtyard, so it was quiet even though the hotel is in the centre of town. The only noise was on the one evening when diners were sitting outside to eat.
Having said that, the rooms were nothing like as grand as the public areas, and you would be disappointed if you expected them to be.
The quoted price was 165 euros a night without breakfast (breakfast being quoted as 13 euros a head) but in fact we only paid 126 euros including breakfast for two. My review would have been much more critical if we had paid full price! The price we paid is still quite high for the room we got - but it may be typical for the area, which is quite close to Paris.

I organized a business event for the Global and EMEA finance teams of a global business travel company near Fontainebleau and booked a block of 43 rooms at the Napoleon Hotel as accomodations. The service of the hotel staff was excellent. The Napoleon's events contact was highly proactive, professional and supportive. Every request was positively answered and potential problems regarding organization were anticipated and efficiently managed. The hotel events contact was also instrumental and proactive in the organization of a group outing at an nearby establishement (informal billards tournament at the Bill'Arts café). This event was also a big success with my collegues.

The hotel itself is located just next to the Fontainebleau chateau in the center of the old city. It is relatively small (less than 60 total rooms) and the rooms, while well appointed (minibar, flatscreen tv, etc), are also on the small side.

There is a lovely terrace/courtyard. We organized a predinner cocktail for 50 people on this terrace. The hotel restaurant, "La Table des Maréchaux" is also very nice and quite comfortable and our group dinner there also went well.

The negative reviews on this site regarding this hotel give an inaccurate picture of this establishment. My group had a really good experience and I have no hesitation in recommending the Napoleon Hotel to anyone interested in visiting Fontainebleau.
