We relocated to this hotel after originally booking at the Adagio which is next door (avoid the adagio - no Internet, dirty rooms, v basic facilities and more expensive). The rooms were compact but good use of space, the shower area was huge, the rooms clean and best of all the beds were really comfortable. At €65 per night this is good value for money. If you book ahead room prices can go down to €40 at the weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful, all in all a relief after the adagio!

Room Tip: Room 219 seemed to be large from the floor plan!

The hotel La City itself is fine - clean, reasonably close to the centre of town, easy to get to, secure parking, clean and ridiculously comfortable beds that I found impossible to get out of.
Only slight downside was our room looked across to offices about 25 metres away so we could almost read what was on their computer screens - we, obviously, had to keep the curtains drawn for privacy. Other rooms do have better aspects.

Lower rating because of the appalling staff in the restaurant. We were not sure if we were going to eat there or walk into town but thought we would have a drink and look over the menu. The barman asked if we were eating and when we said we were not sure he asked us to take our drinks into a back room or the reception area. Rude - and we did ignore him and sat at the back of the restaurant, looked at the menu and had our drinks. Half way through our drinks we decided to eat there and then I found that there was water on the floor and my handbag was soaked - it looked as though it had leaked in from outside where there had been some flooding on the patio area.
We relocated to the table opposite but left two empty glasses on the table we had vacated. A couple of minutes later a very surly waiter (think Basil Fawlty - tall, lanky and full of repressed anger) came across took the table, picked up the empty glasses, paused only to glare at us then slammed them down on the table with a very stroppy "Merci" and stomped off, again with reference to John Cleese and his silly walks.

This amended our decision on eating out. We did complain to the manager who appeared not to be bothered although we did see him remonstrating with the waiter who was demonstrating a good use of the "Do I care?" shrug.

16 days in France and this was the only rudeness we encountered and I it was not necessary. Shame, and spoiled by overall view of the hotel.

Ratings I have given are for the hotel side of things and the restaurant would get the lowest rating possible.

Room Tip: Check if the room looks over the river or the adjacent office block.

Very modern structure. It is an Ibis hotel, so you should not wait for anything but a basic room, but it is very clean and nice. The bathroom is a cabin, may be a little too cramped for a large person. Breakfast is adequate (at times the breakfast room gets crowded), but once you factor the price of breakfast maybe the quality to price radio drops a little. The hotel is 10 minutes walking from the center (the other Ibis hotel in Besançon is much closer to all the sights).
