Great small hotel in Ajaccio. Staff very helpful and great location by the Citadelle. Get a sea view. Very nice breakfast at their video across the street. Rooms are on small side, but very nice.
Very good location, easy access to the beach and public transportation. Very good restaurants nearby. Drink the local Corsican wine, that I do not see in the US.

The Hotel San Carlu has a superb situation in the heart of the old town. If you are there to sightsee, this is a much better option than one of the beachfront hotels further west. The rooms facing the sea and the Citadelle enjoy fantastic views. That much having been said, space is at a premium in old Ajaccio, and most of the rooms are very small. There are larger rooms on the corner and it is worth trying to get them. In our room, for instance, the bathroom had a sliding door because there just wouldn't have been room for a conventional hinged door. A good breakfast (and any other meal one wanted) was taken across the street in a little bistro owned by the hotel. However, everything was immaculately clean, and the hotel seemed to be very well run. The air-con was quiet and efficient and essential because of the street noise.

Lived in a double room for 3 days. The room was ok, but a little to small bed. Quite noicy quite early in the morning- think it was the garbage truck who wake me up each morning( at about 6 AM). Still a ok hotel- nearby city centre. A small beach just 1 minute away, but the best beach experience will you probably get 20-25 minutes drive to the South: at Verghia.

My two friends and I stayed at the San Carlu for three nights, from March 15-18, 2013. We arrived on March 15th and were put in an attic room with no opening windows. After the first night we requested to be moved to a room that had windows that we would be able to open. The lady at the front desk was very nice and was happy to grant our request. We were moved into a new room after breakfast on the second day. As soon as we moved our stuff into the new room, we left the hotel for the day. When we arrived back from our walk out to the Tour de la Parata we tried to use the toilet and found that the flush button did not work. We phoned the reception right away and a very nice man came up, inspected the toilet, and agreed yes the button was broken, but because the toilet still worked, we should simply leave the lid off and pull the chain to flush the toilet manually. The man from the reception let us know that someone would come to fix the toilet in the morning.

No one came to fix the toilet the next morning, but seeing as we were there to spend time sightseeing and that we had already moved rooms once, we did not mention the toilet situation again, and nothing was mentioned to us. We paid for the room on check out and figured it was just a bad experience at a below average hotel that does not know how to provide good customer service (any decent hotel would move their guests to a room with a toilet with a working flush button!)

Two weeks after our stay, I noticed that the hotel had made a charge (around the same price as the cost of the room for three nights) to my credit card that they had on file to book the room. I called the hotel and let them know that they had accidentally double charged my credit card. They said they would look into it and get back to me. I did not hear back. We then contacted the site we booked through to let them know about the double charge, and when they got back to us,we found out it was for a "broken toilet repair bill". Nothing was mentioned to us about this when we were at the hotel, so I was completely shocked that I would be charged $333 for the flush button on a toilet that was clearly broken from general wear and tear! I tried to contact the hotel again to deal with the matter and was told that the manager would phone me back, which he never did.

Room Tip: Make sure you inspect the room before you settle in and make sure everything is working.

This hotel amenities are pretty good but its best asset is the location: close from the city historical centrer Citadelle, shopping area and outdoors bars and restaurants when comes the night.

The price is really a good value especially in the weekend. We had a freshly renewed room, very clean which denotes a little bit with the building 50's ambiance but in a good way. The employees are welcoming and really friendly.

One minor point: they should switch from blankets to duvet bed linen to mak it complete !
