The hotel benefits from a lack of competition in Ajaccio and whilst its 20 minute walk to the main cluster of bars and restaurants in the old town is OK, it is hardly a stroll down the Croisette.

As for the hotel, the main picture of the pool is very faithfully represented. The small hotel though has few other areas of public space. The 10 parking slots behind the wall facing the main road required a degree of parking skill and a slice of luck to hope a slot were free. I assumed cars could then be parked facing the road outside the wall but no one actually bothered to explain.

The rooms were mainly overlooking the pool but as they had as a consequence an upstairs balcony blocking much of the light, the rooms were very dark. We certainly turned down the first choice. Breakfast was served inside, which was a shame, but the weather was mixed. Here, there were plenty of staff but none of them with much idea of what to do with others’ used plates or people waiting to be seated. In short, the place just needed a couple of grown ups to whip the staff into shape. The very impressive female manager who came on the last morning fitted the bill but it was a bit too late. I fear the hotel is good but overpriced for what it is.

Mix of old world charm and modern amenities. Worth it to upgrade to ocean view room with private terrace. Small spa onsight, but the best massage! Staff is all friendly and accommodating. And English is no problem.

We booked a room that was described as having a “garden view.” In fact the room’s view was below the grade/ street level and it looked out at a fence/wall. Management would not give us another room. One of the hotel staff called it a parking lot view! We ended up leaving. We felt that the description of the room was terribly misleading. And having to find an alternative hotel at the last minute created a big hassle for us. Also the parking is very tight and the wifi was slow.

We spent 4 days at Les Mouettes as our weekend getaway in Corsica and we're very happy with our choice. We booked direct on their website and the hotel emailed us a questionnaire beforehand. Our requests in the questionnaire had been promptly noted and followed up which made a good first impression.

We were a little surprised by the location as we pulled up in our car - it is just off the busy main road and looks small from the outside. However, once you step inside, you're transported to a peaceful and tranquil environment. We later found this to be an excellent spot as it is not too far from town yet enough distance from the madness and tacky touristy spots in the city centre.

The Superior Room we had was lovely - though a bit small and slightly dated, it somehow added to the rustic charm. The terrace is very large with a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea - what a beautiful view to wake up to.

Bathroom seems to be newly renovated and spotless clean. We appreciate the powerful shower but with only a standard half screen, the floor is literally flooded after each shower.

Also we found the room to be very cold. Heating is provided by an AC unit, which we had to put at 28 degrees constantly (we felt very bad for the environment...) to get comfortable. As a result we also needed an extra blanket to feel warm when sleeping.

We had many meals at the restaurant - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is limited and overpriced, but good quality. We thoroughly enjoyed the gastronomic dinner though. Luckily we arrived early - once the restaurant filled up (in fact there are only 8/9 tables), we had the feeling that the wait staff and kitchen became overwhelmed, which reflected in the pacing of the later dishes. We could overhear the next tables complaining about how slow the service was.

Unfortunately Ajaccio in April is still a little chilly in our opinion, so we didn't get to use the pool and beach at all, which is a shame. I can imagine how lovely it'd be come summer.

We'd like to thank Cecilia specially as she was exceptional - friendly, efficient, customer-oriented and speaks excellent English. In fact all other staff we encountered were courteous and helpful and we think that's the biggest asset of this hotel. You genuinely get the feeling that they are trying their best and putting their heart in it to make sure guests are having the best possible time.

We are planning to return to Corsica next year and Les Mouettes would be our 1st choice.

Room tip: Go for one with a terrace and sea view

After much research, this was our treat on our anniversary trip. The large suite with an enormous terrace, but the room wasn't the best part.
When we arrived, we were very apprehensive, since we didn't expect the hotel to be just on the outskirts of Ajaccio on a very busy street. We thought we made a mistake. And then we stepped into a haven of tranquility and peace. We so appreciated that the dress code was stated and the 'loudness level'. There were no loud phone conversations, no unruly, loud or drunken guests.
We did not want to leave. We parked our car and didn't get back into it until we left. We used the hotel's bikes to ride into Ajaccio twice, which was awesome, since we didn't have to worry about parking. So it was actually a great location.
Yes, the beach is small and rocky, but the pool is large with plenty of chairs. The beach has lounge chairs and a flag that can be raised to order food or drinks ;). The food in the restaurant was superb. There are also very good restaurants within walking distance.

Service was excellent. It rained for a bit one afternoon, and the receptionist found us to let us know that the staff was going to our room to cover the terrace furniture, so it would get wet, which was great, since we sat on it after dinner.
What a dream!

Hope to visit again, this time staying longer.
