“Conveniently located, solid hotel”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Hotel Porte Mars met our expectations for our weekend stay. The hotel is conveniently located, 20 minute drive to Epernay’s champagne houses and 10-15 minute walk to the city center and the cathedral.
The hotel is located on a busy corner/intersection and if you’re not paying attention, it is easy to miss (small awing/ marquee). There is street parking, one block past the hotel on the right. We are arrived around 1500 and found parking, the next morning I noticed all additional spaces were taken.
The staff was efficient and friendly, easy check-in/out. There is free wifi, you will need to request log on passwords for each device, and also near the front desk are informational brochures for touring. There is a small dining area for breakfast and cozy bar.
We had a superior room (two twin beds/comfortable), street side facing Porte de Mars gate (surprisingly quiet w/windows closed); room and bathroom were clean and well kept. The toilet is separate from the shower (good pressure and roomy). There was a mini bar/refrigerator as well as complementary coffee/tea with a hot water pot.
We took advantage of the breakfast (12.50 Euros). The dining area was pleasant, and the breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs and bacon, meats and cheeses, breads, cereal, fruit, coffee, tea and juices, and a cooker to make soft boiled eggs. Attentive staff, they restocked breakfast items throughout the meal.
Good value would stay again and recommend to family and friends.

I've used this hotel several times and it's always good. It's in a very convenient location and the price is pretty good. The staff are always upbeat and helpful, and the rooms, although a bit small, are absolutely perfect for a short stay. It's right next to the road, tram and train station but the windows are very high quality sound-proof glass so the noise outside won't keep you awake.

I'm sure I'll be coming back at some point in the future!

Ok, our room was err shall we say dated and in need of some renovation pehaps not what you expect from a "Superior" room... BUT it was spotlessly clean and comfortable so I'm not complaining!

We stayed for 3 nights and was thoughly charmed by the whole experience. All of the staff are lovely and cant do enough to help you. We had a car full of bikes so the offer of a secure garage at 10 Euros a day was perfect. Lets face it 10 Euros to park for 24hrs within 5/10mins walk of the town centre is pretty good really.

The a good selection a breakfast kept me going for most of the day.

All in all i'd be very happy to stay again.

The room was clean however a little snug since we had a baby stroller and baby crib in the room. Day time reception was very knowledgable, evening person tended to refer us to day time person. They both spoke English quite well.
You can park a few minutes away at the porte building for free-just get there at a time when you can find a spot (dome like roof-look slightly left out the front door).
The breakfast was wonderful-the one hotel in france where I really enjoyed the hot options, and it was nice to have some fresh fruit.
The location was close enough to everything and for us it was nice because you didn't have to drive into the smaller streets to get to it. I would stay there again.
We were facing the street - but the windows blocked out the noise (when the drapes are closed you can barely hear anything).

We stayed one night to see the cathedral and the wine caves. The hotel is a 5-10 minute w alk from the train station and easy to find. Very clean and the triple room we had was cozy and vey comfortable for 3 adults. The soundproof windows are outstanding. We had a completely quiet night despite the fact the hotel is on a busy intersection and near the train. Breakfast was convenient and a good value. I would certainly recommend the hotel.

Tip: Don't miss the evening light show at the cathedral. Outstanding!

We stayed here for a couple nights but wished we stayed longer! This hotel was very clean and the rooms were extremely large by European standards. It's location worked well for champagne tasting as there is Casanove next door with G.H. Mumm and several others within walking distance. It is also just a 5-10 minute stroll to downtown Reims and great dining. And last but not least are the people who work here. They are more then willing to give you directions, eating tips and local knowledge. The people make the place! The hotel is located on a busy intersection but at night with the windows closed you couldn't here any traffic or the trolley.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the park across the street which also includes the Porte Mars

Hotel located 5 minute walk from Reims train station, or if you use Champage-Ardenne station, it can be reached by the tram, or a taxi costs around 22-25 euros.

It is also a 10 min walk to the main pedestrian street, where there is a large selection of bars and restaurants.

The room themselves may seem small, but they were clean and well decorated, and the showers worked - a must in any hotel. Although on a busy road, no road noise was heard at all.

Hotel staff were extremely helpful and spoke excellent English.

Breakfast buffet was fresh and plentiful and a bar at the back was great after a very long day out.
