“Good Value. Recommended”

Despite booking the day before and arriving late, we were given a warm welcome. Our superior room was of a good size and with two sets of double glazed windows there was no street noise. The very helpful reception reserved a table at a nearby restaurant which was good quality. Parking was in a side street 1 minute away. There is a tram stop for city access by the hotel. We wold recommend this hotel as a good budget option.

I'm always a bit nervous staying at 3* non-chain hotels, but this little hotel is very quaint. The service at the front desk was excellent, they were generous with the wifi codes (which worked well) and were happy to serve me a glass of champagne in the bar while I was waiting to go to dinner. Breakfast is not bad either. The room was small, but well-designed, with convenient sockets and a decent shower.

The hotel is located just at the edge of the old city, within sight of the ancient Roman ruin, the Porte de Mars, next door to a champagne house which offers tours and tastings (Charles de Cazanove) and within walking distance of another (the venerable GH Mumm). The Halles market is nearby, as are a number of restaurants towards the center of town. You can walk to the cathedral (the fantastic Notre Dame). So the location is terrific.

There is street parking within a block of the hotel which is charged during the day with a parking meter. You can pay ahead, and get a strip of paper with the expiration time on it.

The staff were very friendly and helped us get reservations at a nearby restaurant on a Friday. There is coffee / tea service in the room and a refrigerator, so we were able to self-cater our breakfast, which worked nicely for us.

Even though the hotel is located on a very busy intersection, there was no street noise detectable so long as we kept the windows closed.

Some downsides: So long as you go in the direction of the town center, the location is good, but the part of town in the other direction seems sketchy to me. Also, the air conditioner in our room made noise but never seemed to produce any cool air.

Overall would recommend this place.

Used this as a stopover after a ski holiday in the Alps. Arrived late, but reception and concierge (a Frenchman brimming with joie de vivre) were very welcoming. We booked a triple and twin to accommodate us (family of 5). The rooms were adjacent, clean, airy and decorated in a very French, if slightly dated and eclectic style - which personally I prefer to the monotony of hotel chains. We ate out as a family (Le Latin) which was a lovely little pizzeria 10 mins walk away. Breakfast the following morning was a relaxing affair with the usual array of self service choices, (available until a very civilised 11am). Only tiny criticism I have is that our car would not fit in the hotel car park because of its low level ceiling (we have a roof box), so we had to park in unsecured parking 5 mins walk away. But all in all, a great hotel which I would highly recommend.

The hotel is quiet with its double glazing and staff are great, speaking both French and English. The car park is secure but small, most things about the hotel are on the small side, the rooms, toilet, bathroom and bed. However the price and location are both good. Lift is good for bags, although had to park around the corner to unload as the hotel is on a busy corner. Breakfast was well catered for.

Room Tip: Ask for non smoking.

As others have noted this is conveniently located within 5 minutes walk of the train station.
It is also close to the recently reopened Les Halles Boulingrin indoor market (open Thursday, Friday and Saturday). It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Mumm cellar and about 10 minutes to the Musee de la Redittion.
It is about a 15 minute walk to the Cathedral and Central Reims but there is a tram stop at the front door of the hotel. There are a few restaurants nearby although we did not try any. There are good take away food options: a traiteur, charcuterie, boulangerie etc
Our room on the 3rd floor was very clean, quiet and well appointed. Unusually for a French hotel there was a jug for tea and coffee provided in the room. There was also a bar fridge in the room.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Our reservation and check in and out were all handled smoothly. In addition, we were given access to our room as soon as we arrived which was a couple of hours early. They also stored our luggage after we had checked out.
Overall: highly recommended.

We stayed at the Hotel Porte Mars for one night in October. We decided to stay at this hotel because of its convinient location and positive reviews. Hotel is centrally located few steps from railway station, tram stop and whithin walking distance to the town centre. The room was rather small (like in each hotel in France we have stayed so far) but spotlessly clean and functional, with comfortable bed and clean, small again, bathroom. Even if our room was overlooking the main busy road, we didn't hear any noise. There is an elevator which is a plus. The reception staff was competent, friendly and nice. Summing up, it's a lovely small hotel well located for a resonable price. All those factors made our stay there pleasant and we could recommend the hotel.
