“Good location, average hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while travelling through the Champagne region. The location is fantastic and puts you right in the heart of Reims and all the restaurants. The staff were very helpful with directions and recommendations. The room however was probably the smallest we stayed in during our trip in France, and the room could use updating. The bed was pretty old and uncomfortable with thin pillows, and the bathroom was tiny. If you are looking for just a place to sleep at a cheap price, this will suit given it's location. However if you want to spend some time in your room (as we did after an exhausting few days), I would recommend you look for another hotel.

We selected this hotel on the basis of close proximity to the SNCF railway station and the downtown area. The hotel is set well back from the pedestrian-only place Drouet d'Erlon and getting to the hotel entrance entails walking through a narrow path between two restaurants into a very pleasant courtyard filled with flowers and a few tables. The rooms are small, typical for a 2-star hotel; the double bed and the bathroom facilities are adequate. There is the also typically small French elevator surrounded by a circular stairway. We were charged 69 € per night for a double room plus an extra 7 € per day per person for an excellent buffet breakfast that included pain au chocolat, croissants, hard-boiled eggs, yoghurt, fresh fruit, juice and coffee, taken in an elegant room. Our room faced the place Drouet d'Erlon but, because the hotel was so far set back from the street, the room was very quiet. The place Drouet d'Erlon itself is pretty well cheek-to-jowl restaurants so you don't have to go far for a meal. Our room looked down onto the courtyard but the view directly out of the window produced mainly rooftops and made me think of the Mary Poppins movie. The desk clerk was extremely helpful, informing us of the light show at the Cathedral to celebrate the 800th anniversary of its construction, a show not to be missed! His English was very good. All other staff were friendly although most of this was little more than a smile and a cordial Bonjour. The night clerk spoke very little English but smiles and my limited French worked fine. The hotel certainly would not be confused with the Hilton or Hyatt, but we found the price and location to be right and the atmosphere excellent. Would we stay there again? Most definitely!

Room Tip: Since the hotel does have an elevator, there's no need to stay at a lower floor. The elevator i...

We stayed at the Hotel Crystal for two nights in the beginning of October and loved it there! The price was right and the hotel was quite charming with a lovely garden area outside. I loved the elevator and though the room was tiny, it had everything we needed and I loved the french doors opening to the courtyard. Even though it is in the busy tourist area, this hotel is back from the hustle and bustle.
I would definitely go back again!

We stayed for the second time in Hotel Crystal.
first time we had a family room. This time two rooms adjoining. So the kids had their own room with a room in between.

Location: great
Very friendly.
Breakfast was improved, quite nice.

We can recommend this hotel to everyone!

We arrived at the hotel after driving for eight hours through Europe, very tired and in need of a rest. The hotel is easy to find in a great location and our hopes were high. The receptionist handed us our keys with no offer to help with our luggage, just pointed to a very small lift that took a few goes to work. The rooms were extremely basic but very clean - in fact the bathroom had been bleached to excess. There was a shabby mini bar stocked with luke warm drinks as it wasn't working properly. There was no traffic noise at all so we slept well, but in the morning beat a retreat before breakfast as there was no atmosphere at the hotel and the breakfast area all looked just too basic. In summary a faded hotel, past its best in a great location.

Awful hotel, extremely dirty, the whole place smells ... In addition to that it's a robbery: they will charge you something like 14 euros for breakfast

We stayed for one night on the way back from the Alps. It was quite tricky to find - but the parking was very close. I loved the lift! A real antique as were many of the furnishings. The hotel was just off a pedestrianised area with lots of restaurants which was very handy but the hotel was reached by a small alleyway set back from the street which meant it was quite quiet. There was a pretty flowered courtyard in front of it with seating. This is a basic hotel but the shower was very powerful and the service was friendly. I would stop there again.
