Chris is clearly passionate about champagne, he can explain the entire fabrication process, and he can make you understand that life for the small viniculteurs is not always that easy. You will also understand why the concern for quality of the product explains why you have to pay the price if you want to drink the real stuff. There are the tastings of course and since you don't have to drive yourself, everyone in the party can enjoy the glasses that are offered. The visit to a familiy champagne business only increases the admiration for these hard working people.
Chris will pick you up at the hotel, and the four hours trip might even last longer if the attendants are very interested.

We were a group of 11 lads who came to Paris for a Stag weekend. We too the Eurostar from London, which was very painless. Paris was a great base to visit the Champagne region, with only a short hop on the TGV.

Cris gave us good instruction on what train we needed to get on to make the most of our day. Unfortunately our group size changed a couple of times before the weekend, but Cris was very accommodating in that respect.

With Regards the tour. It was a fabulous day. We were met at the train station by Cris and a colleague. As we were a group of 11 were were in 2 mini buses. The tour was a fantastic experience. Cris is clearly a fountain of knowledge on all that encompasses Champagne; from the history of the land, the early creation of the vineyards, how the vine is cultivated, the varieties of the grape used and the history of Dom-Perignon and how the Champagne method of fermentation was devised.

Cris has spent large part of his life working in the Champagne industry and specifically was involved in the material science of the bottles - this is actually quite involved and an extremely important part of the process, as if not correct the bottles may explode during fermentation - costly to the producers, not to mention the other issues with exploding glass!

Naturally Cris is very familiar with many of the producers and is able to offer a very personalised experience with many of the small family producers. We were often welcomed by the family and able to taste many of the Champagnes, with an explanation of the wine from the vineyard owner themselves.

Our day was split into two halves, with the morning spent tasting the darker champagnes, with the Pinot noir & meaner and the afternoon more varieties with a more predominance of the Chardonnay grape. There were some gems, my favourite a small family vineyard producing a Blanc de Noir - made 100% from pinot noir, quite a rarity but definitely worth trying. In the morning Cris started by taking the group into the field to explain how the vine grows, the pruning techniques, the ages of the vines and how you can tell this.

At lunch we stopped at a local restaurant. This was a true experience in itself. Local quinine served with flamboyance. The patron is a true character and entertained from start to finish, we could have stayed all afternoon happily, but the tour continued.

In the afternoon as we were a stag party Cris suggested that it might be nice if the Stag opened a bottle using the Sabre technique. This was accommodated by our last Producer, who carefully explained how this was done and provided the sabre. To all our surprise he did it first time. A great way to end a fabulous day.

I can thoroughly recommend Cris Event. Great day out.

We were looking for an authentic tour of the Champagne region. Cris provided a genuine and indelible day. He drove us past the great houses of Champagne. That was all we needed to se of them. Then it was out to the vineyards to see the vines and taste the grapes.

From the hills we traveled to the perfect place – the Jean Milan family winery. We met the wine makers and saw the equipment and process first hand. This was followed by a tasting that was superb. Throughout Cris did his best with English and presented all the most important points about champagne making.

We finished our day in Hautvillers to visit the Benedictine abbey where Dom Pérignon is buried. We learned how this simple monk contributed so much to perfect the making of champagne while contemplating the spirit of this quiet ancient church.

This was a genuinely satisfying experience I will not forget. What is travel if not making memories? Cris provided us with a rich set of experiences that will always be with us.

My wife and I went on this visit and loved it. Chris is a really nice enthusiastic guy who picks you up from your hotel in his mini bus and then takes you to 2 or 3 champagne houses where you have a look around and learn how the champagne is made and see where it is stored before sampling a variety of types of champagne and then you have the opportunity to buy some if you wish but it is not obligatory.

We saw the presses and caves and also travelled through the vines where we learnt about the different types of grapes used and saw the vines and tasted the grapes and witnessed some fabulous views. Chris was always happy to stop for a picture opportunity and he would explain what we were seeing as we passed the beautiful countryside in the mini bus. Also visited a church where Dom Perignon is buried who you will find out is very important to the Champagne history.

It is a four hour trip where Chris very enthusiastically shares his knowledge. We had a great afternoon and would highly recommend. Really good value for money and very interesting. I will be studying my champagne bottles in much more detail from now on.....

We booked with Cris-Event based on TA reviews and spent a wonderful day in Reims and Epernay. Cris is amazing in his knowledge of the region (he's a native) and of the champagne process. I found his English to be very good, and I taught English for 30 years. There were 8 of us in our group and we all enjoyed the tour immensely. It was harvest-time in the vineyards and we were able to watch the workers gathering chardonnay and pinot noir grapes for the various champagne houses. Cris instinctively knew when to stop for the best pictures and, at the end of the tour, dropped everyone off where they wanted.
We took the TGV from Paris-Est to Reims where Cris picked us up for the morning tour. We spent the afternoon and evening enjoying the cathedral and the town. A MUST experience!
