We stayed here over night from our trip back from Lake Como there were 2 coaches of Shearings which we were with. They provided us with 3 course meal soon after we arrived which was very good. Rooms were clean and tidy and a surprise they gave us cooked breakfast.

One night stay :

Good : Helpful welcoming staff, great bed and duvet, well equipped bathroom. Very good cooked breakfast, despite having it at 6 am for early start.

Bad : Poor ambience in two levelled dining area with far too bright ligthing, Food and wine on the expensive side.

We stayed at this hotel for a single night whilst returning from a Shearings holiday in Italy on 7th / 8th April. I'd had some poor experiences with Mercure before, but had hoped that things may have improved - WRONG ! Firstly - the good points, the room was comfotable, and quiet, now the bad points - the customer service at this hotel is terrible, firstly our luggage was delivered to the wrong room, I sorted this out, and we went to the bar for a drink, where it took 25 minutes for us to be served. My wife's drink arrived in a glass with lipstick marks on it, which I asked for be changed, and then her bottle of cola showed a "best by" date of January, I showed this to the bar tender, who checked every bottle he had in the bar, and all of them had dates of January 2012. He offered an alternative - Coke Zero which had a best-by date of April, which we didnt want, and then went to the store room to eventually find (after a further 30 minutes, and causing an even bigger queue at the bar) some more bottles all of which had a best-by date of April. We had our evening meal in a nice clean room, however the Turkey which was provided was very tough and undercooked with a lot of complaints. So, as per most of the other comments on TA, do not stay here unless you have absolutely no other option, there are a number of other hotels in the same area, which must be better than this.

On a Shearings holiday we stayed overnight on the way back from Italy.
3 points.
1.We were in room 213 right next to reception. It was very noisy until at least 12.00am despite my husband going out twice to close the double doors which then banged every time someone walked through them
2. The heating vent was noisy all night and the ceiling was black around it.
3. Worst of all. We had 2 vegetarian ladies sitting at our table. When they told the waiter they were vegetarian, which had been on their booking form with Shearings, he took their plates away and then brought them back with vegetables and chips but minus the meat. We could not believe this, especially now we have read your comment of Dec 2011

We were told before booking, by the hotel, that they were located conveniently close to the town centre, which was important to us for this trip. This turned out to be completely untrue, if you’re staying here you either need a bus, taxi or car to get into Reims. But I wouldn’t recommend taking a taxi that they call for you, they do the old take-the-tourists-the-long-way-round-and-rip-em-off trick, which we discovered had been happening to us after we hired a car.
The final straw for us came on the last night of our stay when we discovered that there had been a theft from our room. We were originally told by the manager to report the item to the police, email them the police report and they would reimburse us for the stolen item. We did this, but once we were back home in Australia (safely on the other side of the world) the manager refused to give us a refund. We had (foolishly) followed her advice and reported the item stolen in the next country we were travelling to rather than France, which also meant that we couldn’t claim for the item from our travel insurance. We are now well out of pocket from this and completely dissatisfied. While we cannot prove anything, we felt at the time of the theft from the responses given by the other staff members that this was not the first time that something had been stolen from a guest’s room, the receptionist we originally reported the theft to certainly seemed to have picked up someone who shouldn’t have accessing our room through the electronic key system. It also proved impossible to escalate with Mercure, they have no contact system for complaints or dissatisfied guests. So we will simply never stay in one of their hotels again.
All in all, Reims is lovely and a trip to Champagne is great, just stay somewhere else. Oh and if something is stolen from your hotel room insist they call the police, now!!

My wife and I stayed here on the first night of a Leger Holidays Christmas-New Year tour. It is comfortable enough and quite acceptable for an overnight stay. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the heating, as with all winter hotels, too much. Breakfast was good, nourishing and extensive. Overall, quite good.
